Old style mothers day present
sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search but didn't find the sort of thing I was thinking of. I'd like to get an 'old style' mothers day pres for mine, I think in the good old days a special cake was baked and young girls in service were allowed home for the day and picked a bunch of primroses so I was looking…

Shopping questions.
Hello all. In preparation for living on my own in the motorhome, I'm wondering what's the best way to shop. The 'van itself is fairly well equipped with loads of cupboard space, a full gas oven with grill and 3-ring hob and a reasonable sized (for a motorhome!) fridge with a diddy freezer compartment. I may be able to keep…

Indian Spices - Keeping
Hello all Are there any Indian cooking experts out there? I live near an Asian supermarket and I love it! It has the best selection of spices and all sorts of cooking ingredients. My question is this - I used to go to college with an Indian girl who kept all her spices in a round tin, with lots of little bowls inside for…

Prima cake recipe
Thought I'd try and save some of the bakers on here a bit of money. In the April issue there is an Almost Battenburg recipe - don't make it, it's disgustingly sweet _pale_ _pale_ _pale_ Seriously, I have a very sweet tooth, but this is practically inedible! I put 2oz less sugar in the cake than it said and the amount of…

How Long Do You Keep Home-made Soup For?
When I make a pot of soup, it's usually a big one and can last at least two days. If there's any left over, I never like to eat it on the third day (I'm obsessed about getting food poisoning! lol) so my question is this - if you have made a large pot of soup, how long do you use it for? Or do you take it out of the pot and…

:A Hello! I'm new to the forums and I wish I'd never looked at them - they're great. I'm completely addicted. Yesterday, I spent ages looking for yogurt making tips/recipes - found them, made it last night, ate it today. Absolutely delicious, I'm never buying yogurt again (except when I need some more live stuff!) So,…

Buying Mussels
There are a couple of mussel recipes in my Jamie Oliver and Hugh FW books – (Cook and Family Cookbook) that I want to try. Very ambitious for me as fish scares me to death. Anyway, I need some live mussels. I’ve seen some in the supermarket all bagged up, but are they alive? I’m assuming they must be alive as all the…

Quick, easy biscuits to use with small cutters?
Well, I just can't spend any more time searching - I know there's a thread somewhere but it eludes me! I've promised my son that we'll make biscuits when he gets home from nursery in half an hour. I bought him some small alphabet biscuit cutters for being a good boy while I was ill last week and he's really excited about…
