Indian Spices - Keeping

Hello all
Are there any Indian cooking experts out there? I live near an Asian supermarket and I love it! It has the best selection of spices and all sorts of cooking ingredients.
My question is this - I used to go to college with an Indian girl who kept all her spices in a round tin, with lots of little bowls inside for all the different spices with a tiny spoon for each. Do they not all 'taint' each other with their smells? Or is it all in the taste? (Because I want to buy one if possible)
Thanks in advance!

Was it like this one? http://www.spicesofindia.co.uk/acatalog/Indian-Food-Masala-Dabba-Complete.html
They sell them in my local asian grocery0 -
That was it! Well, thanks, it seems you've answered my question ...
"Most Indian homes have at least 1 Masala Dabba and they are used to store the most commonly used spices".
Thanks very much - I'm going to get one, they look really nice, much better than lots of jars/packets.0 -
My Indian friend ( the darker one in the avatar) uses a masala dabba.
Basically an airtight tin with small pots inside. My tin is (was) a plain tin with a plastic clear window that had a Christmas cake in (given to me as a present). I have used glass yogurt pots inside as I didn't have the metal dishes. Works well for me.
I had the pleasure of buying a new masala dabba for my friend. Stainless steel with a glass window and stainless steel pots.
However in the kitchen my friend uses plastic jars. Very OS0 -

Oo. Shiny. I want one. I've got most of the spices, so even an empty one would be fine.
Any idea how much they were?
I now have to try and meet the requirements of Martin's Money Mantra. Do I need it? (Hmm.) Will I use it? (Yes.) Have I looked for it cheaper elsewhere? (Working on it.)The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
The one I saw was about £15 with the small pots inside and no spices0

They have them on eBay. Was looking at them myself as a spice storage solution.

Some very good prices, and the sellers have lots of them available, so there should be no need to bid against each other.
But do I need one? :huh:The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

This a spam and has been reported. How is this spam?
There was a new post ressurrecting the old thread which was clearly spam. I also reported it (and probably several others) so the mods must have deleted it. Shame there's no way for the mods to also tidy up the "spam reported" bit and put the thread back where it ended up! I think's probably one of those "nice to have" features that the MSE mantra's would say no one needs to pay for though0
