I blame you all! And yogurt!

Options
:A Hello!

I'm new to the forums and I wish I'd never looked at them - they're great. I'm completely addicted.

Yesterday, I spent ages looking for yogurt making tips/recipes - found them, made it last night, ate it today. Absolutely delicious, I'm never buying yogurt again (except when I need some more live stuff!)

So, that's it. I blame you lot for being such a font of knowledge and information and keeping me from other things - like ironing!!!!

Luckily, I work Tuesday and Wednesday so I won't be on here all day - but I'll be bacl when my 2 year old has gone to bed at 8pm. There was an article in the observer about mothers looking forward to bed time so they could have a glass or considerably more of wine. I will be doing the same but instead of getting drunk, I'll be coming on here!!!

There are loads of yogurt making tips on here but it took me ages to sort through them.

This is what I did (following recipes and tips from other people)

I have one of those easy-yo plastic things from Lakeland Limited (my favourite shop but I've banned myself)

Lots of people say use uht milk but I just couldn't bring myself to do it - didn't have any either way).

I had a small tub of yeo valley organic probiotic natural yogurt (150g).
I put 1.5 tablespoons into the easy-yo plastic pot, boiled a mixture of skimmed and whole organic milk - 1 litre (didn't have enough of both). Let it cool to about 43c (have a small electronic thermometer (apparently cooled down sufficiently to levae your finger in - baby bottle warmth). Added it to the yogurt and left it in the easy-yo thermos overnight.

Some people put in a normal thermos, some in glass jars in an airing cupboard.

Apparently (won't know for sure for a while) you can use the yogurt you've made to make more yogurt but only for so long - have read 7 odd times. Another poster suggested freezing parts of the original batch and then defrosting before using (will def try that)

I then strained the yog (through a muslin in a sieve) for a few hours in the fridge. I came home and it was delicious. Creamy, smooth, not at all tangy (unlike the yeo valley I started with)

Give it a go. It really is delicious.

We have lots of different threads on yoghurt making and some of them do include making yoghurt without a yoghurt maker.
