Soya Mince
I have a packet of soya mince in the house that has passed its best before date, by about 6 months, do you think it would still be ok to eat as it is dehaydrated?

Cooking rice for 12 people
When I cook basmati rice, I always cook it in plenty of water then drain and ALWAYS rinse with boiling water. Nice, non sticky rice. On Christmas Eve I will be doing chilli and rice for 12 and possibly a couple more. I don't have a seive big enough to drain so much rice and I assume it would drop through a colander. I have…

Food left out overnight - fit to eat?
Last night I roasted some chicken drumsticks with lots of vegetables. I ate half, and put the remainder in a foil dish on the draining board to cool. I forgot all about it until 7 oclock this morning, when I put it in the freezer. However, it's been left for 12 hours in the kitchen, and I live in London so it doesn't get…

stain help, please
A common one I expect: my daughter made a plasticine nativity (yes, complete with tiny little bits of gold, frankincense and myrr!). Delightful, even for inveterate non-believers (I think they picked her as Mary as revenge). But we now have plasticine in the landlord's brand new carpet ... Thought I'd check for advice…

"Cooking for the 5,000 - loaves and fishes stuff"
Quite some time ago now I scanned a cookbook that had specifically been written for cooking for loadsa people - it was written in a format where the ingredient quantities were given in 3 or 4 different quantities - along the lines of whether one was cooking for 4 or 20 or 50 people (that sort of idea anyway). It was…

Will last year's Xmas stuffing be OK?
I've found a container of last Xmas's homemade stuffing in the freezer and was wondering if it's likely to be OK. Apart from breadcrumbs, some sort of dried fruit and maybe hazelnuts I've no idea what went into it and I can't check as I've no idea where I got the recipe from! What do you think?

Train set scenery
I am not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I wondered if anyone knows of any way of making realistic looking scenery for a train set? (Similar to those you can buy in the shop.) I have looked at buying packs of figures and buildings but they are quite expensive in the long run. Thanks in advance.

Freezing butter - any pitfalls?
Today at Mr T's, I discovered that my favourite Lurpak slightly salted (the ONLY butter I buy!) was on offer at 2 for £2 which is a really good saving as the individual price is £1.29. I bought six packs and made sure the sell by date was long enough so they would keep in the fridge. However, I was wondering about buying…

Curse of the expensive puddings!
Any ideas on how to wean my dad off expensive individual shop-bought puddings (i.e. miniature American style cheesecakes, premium brand trifles, etc!)?? He seems to be falling for the fact that they look pretty and are nicely presented in pretty packaging. -I've tried making homemade puddings, but obviously they don't come…

A thread that was done ages ago about cheap meals for two - I think it was done by EagerLearner? Not sure but it rings a bell. I did copy most of the recipes, but have lost the file after doing a reload. I'm also after the recipes for the cobbler using just flour, sugar and water I think with the fruit on the bottom and…
