The only thing I do to prepare for Christmas lunch is to plant some charlotte potatoes in AugustA friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

Well, apart from making the pudding which I've done, I don't do anything. I don't find Christmas lunch any more work than a normal sunday lunch:) I do roast potatoes and parsnips and then peas and carrots (for colour mainly). I find with a roast lunch what everyone really wants is the meat, the potatoes and gravy. I definitely don't do starters or umpteen veg dishes. I'll make some quince sauce (we're having goose) and sage and onion stuffing on Christmas Eve.0

christmas eve I spend all day or parts of the day doing a trifle and cooking some sausage rolls for people to munch on...usually about 150 rolls...and this year I will be soaking my ham...then christmas morning after church I will do the veg which will be...roast pots/ glazed parnips/sprouts with bacon/sausage and bacon rolls/cauliflower/carrots/red cabbage/ then I'll do the glaze for the ham and get that in the over for 30 minutes then it'll be eat all you can...nothing goes to waste as I do cold cuts the next day bubble n sqeak and currys and stuff also we have 2 large dogs as well so they'll get treats off that also... boxing day is my day off...the one day of the year that I can call my own...:rotfl::Dhappy holidays:D
Pls be nice to all MSer's
There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

I do all the preperation on xmas eve, peel spuds, veg ect, boil a ham for xmas tea and make lots of buffet food ready for xmas tea and boxing day.
Xmas tea is fresh ham with cobs and sausage rolls pork pie and other quick and easy party food.
Then boxing day morning i put out a big spread, then thats me done for the day apart from warming up more mince pies!!Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0 -
I tend to do the potatoes and veg (carrots/brocolli) on christmas eve - it just saves preperation time on christmas day and i cook up sausages rolls, mini sausages and put out a few other little bits on plates on top of the cooker so if people are hungry they can help themselves but they are out of reach of the dog and benjamin.
I am also hoping this year ot make a trifle on christmas eve for our dessert on christmas day as we've never had it on xmas before so that will be nice. think i mihgt make some cakes too jsut to have somethign else to nibble onTime to find me again0 -

Exactly the same as me...though I've not got our turkey yet!!!:o
Readig this thread I may do a few things early...will watch it with interest!0 -
Usually prep my veggies on Christmas Eve while listening to the carol service - just seems like a nice way to wind down before going to bed - with a glass of Baileys of course!
Keep my eyes open for any Extra Special stuffing on whoopsie in ASDA and get it frozen. Have already got in a couple of packs of 'special stuffing mixes' that will be good as well.
We're having lamb shanks in minted gravy this year and those are already in the freezer, along with a piece of pork and some home made apple sauce.
There are also two chickens (2 for £5.00) in the freezer from last month - wont be using those this close to Christmas so will count towards the christmas food stockpile.
I've got one of those turkey joints (serves 2/3 people) in freezer as well.
Fruit and Veg will be ordered from our local Veggie Van and gets delivered on Friday every week. May need to blanche and freeze some sprouts or they will be not be too fresh by Christmas Day.
Need to get a couple of frozen desserts (raspberry roulade for Christmas Day and maybe a nice gateaux of some kind), some Ice Cream stuff and some plain Ice Cream for a Baked Alaska. Already got ingredients for my special trifle. Will have a go at home-made shortbread this year but I'll be buying my mince pies - we don't eat many of them but do like the ES puff pastry ones from ASDA. I'm the only person who likes Christmas Cake and Pudding - so we won't be bothering with those (unless I can find the individual size ones just for me!)0 -
I always prepare veg Christmas eve early evening. I put Turkey in oven just before i go to bed (about 1am) with lashings of butter well rubbed in and double foil wrapped. This goes in on a very low setting and tastes wonderful. I have done this for the last 7 years, as it means I can watch the children opening the presents without having to disappear into the kitchen.
