It's Stir-Up Sunday
:xmastree: Today is Stir-Up Sunday, the traditional day for making your Christmas puds. My fruit has been soaking in Guinness and brandy all night, and OH and I will mix the puddings up later (making a wish of course;)) and put them on to steam. We're making two, one for us, one for a friend's Christmas present. We use the…

Novels about the frugal lifestyle
I'm just rereading Larkrise To Candleford, and I really enjoy reading about oldfashioned living and how people thrive on so little to make ends meet. Can you recommend any other novels/books like this? I've read Little Women, haven't read Little House on the Prairie yet, but can't think of any others.

Crunchy root veg in slow cooker
I am so jealous of all those people who "just bung things in" to their slow cooker and get perfect food! I put diced (quite small) carrots, potatoes, swede and parsnips into my sc at 7am, along with boiling chicken stock and leftover roast chicken, put it on low, and opened the lid at 4.30pm to find...crunchy veg in…

Crochet instructions
Hi, This might not be the best place to post, but since you got a knitting thread her on the OS board I thought I try here first. I've been given a great crochet pattern but find it hard to understand the instruction and it is supposed to be for beginners. I know there is a slight language barrier since I'm Swedish and I…

Icing for Chrismas Cake
Hi All. I would love to make my own marzipan and royal icing, this year, for my Chrissie cake, as i've been lovingly feeding it with brandy for weeks now! And...i'm sure it works out cheaper to make your own, rather than getting Tesco's version. Does anyone know a fail-safe recipe for both royal icing, and also marzipan…

Would this work as a recipe?
I'm on a mission to use up foodstocks and reduce storage space, and I have 40 uncooked cocktail sausages defrosting. I'm thinking of mixing them with chopped leeks and doing a sausage leek toad in the hole. Would this work? Should I grill the sausages and fry off the leeks first?

Kitchen aid - any good?
Hello, I would like to buy one gadget that does everything, for baking, chopping/grating, blending etc. Can anyone recommend the Kitchenaid over the Kenwood chef to someone who currently has neither? I know this is an old debate but I just can't decide (even after reading thethreads on here)! Does someone have a definitive…
