OS daily thread 24th November 2007

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 24th November. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good morning everyone!!!

Well I was just about to go visit with the *Land of Nod* when the neighbour from two doors up knocked. I was actually in bed, eyes closed and on the verge of a snore when the bell went. DH has since gone mad ( he was asleep and didn't hear the bell:rolleyes: ) that I got up and answered the door. Neighbour was lonely and needed a chat. It's sad really. He had moved in with the widow who rented the property a couple of years ago, and she has now died. He has to vacate the property since they never married or put him on the rentbook. I never got on that well with her, but he's a !!!!!cat:D I feel so sorry for him but don't know what I can do to help. ( He assumed I was up because there was a downstairs light on! I'll have words with the DS who hasn't yet mastered switching lights off)

Anyway, I'm now wide awake, and looking at a hectic day tomorrow( today really!!!!)

I have some fundraising activities at Church first thing, then over to DS2 and family. They're all poorly with cold/flu-like viruses, so I'm bringing DGSs back with me to give them a break. Just as well I'm not one for Saturday shopping.;) Got a couple more presents yesterday, so only about 20 or so to get:rotfl: :rotfl: Christmas, don't you just love it:p (actually I do, once the shops close on Christmas Eve:rolleyes: )

mrs mix, glad you're home, just take it as easy as possible. ((((hugs)))) and hopes that this op will bring you some much deserved relief:D

Aussie, well that dishcloth..... I'm speechless in wonderment at it's ........wonderfulness:rotfl: :rotfl: As an Aussie you know nothing about soccer. Just 'cos we went out doesn't make us failures:rotfl: Just not successful:o :p

Now I can hear the [strike]damn[/strike]lovely foxes playing outside. I look forward to more pots on their side and plants the worse for wear in the morning:mad: Between them and the squirrels it's a wonder I have any garden left:rolleyes: Each morning I'm greeted with bulbs scattered everywhere and earth scattered far and wide. I keep replanting the tubs 'cos I'm blowed if a furry pest will get the better of me, good job I'm stubborn too;)

Suppose I should wend my way back upstairs and see if I can get some sleep ( if DH isn't snoring for England again:rotfl: )

I hope you have good Saturdays, and ((hugs) to all who need them. JackieO, thinking of you, how's it going? Would love to hear of your progress:D

Take care,

CMxxx

    Morning everyone

Churchie, hope you got to sleep! Your poor neighbour....he must have thought he was getting life sorted. I'm sure he's devestated. Your OH is right though, not good answering the door at that time of night!

    Happy birthday to Kyle's OH.

Plans for today...just the usual [STRIKE]drudgery[/STRIKE] cleaning, washing etc etc that us Old Stylers love so much:rolleyes: I am not going anywhere near a supermarket, but will go to the local shop to pick up a copy of The Guardian for the free supplement about baking. Well I think it's in The Guardian, I'm not spending £1.00 on a newspaper most of which I won't read unless it's got something free and useful with it.

AussieLass - congratulations on the dishcloth, it's beautiful, a work of art. Aren't you clever. You going to give it to your exDIL "with love" for Christmas?

Hope everyone is well and that the drugs work today.

    Snowy
  • Good morning Snowy, churchmouse and all to follow.

Pipkin - just caught up with yesterdays thread and you got the little guy. Well done! Was talking to DH's sisters on Thursday evening and both horrified that they have little 'furry friends', too. They were swapping tips. SIL was telling me that she 'saw' movement for weeks after catching hers but it was just jumpiness. I'd still keep the traps down just to be sure.

Mrs Mix - hope you'll soon be much more comfortable.

Nice lazy day planned today. All men folk in house have colds so I think we'll have a cosy day home today. Have nieces coming to dinner unexpectedly tomorrow so will require some quick thinking to adjust my menu. Not much in but I've worked out a cunning plan to make a load of HM stuff that will look great on the table (thanks to the 'feeding 5 from the cupboard thread' :D )

Cat looking longingly at me so I'd best put her some food down and replenish my coffee cup.

    Enjoy your weekends.

Morning to all. CHURCHMOUSE - although your sleep was disturbed, you must have been a great comfort to your neighbour. You have playful foxes, my Mum has a badger! He visits in the dead of night and plays with an old ball, zig-zagging up and down the garden with it, then he digs huge holes in her lawn and, like your foxes, upsets all the pots. there is such a lot of wildlife activity going on at night - I have foxes and an occasional couple of deer; the deer were quite entrancing the first time I saw them silhouetted in the moonlight - I couldn't stop looking at them.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mr KYLE, DLB's DS3 and STEF's GS!:bdaycake: :bdaycake: :bdaycake:

Well, I haven't read the rest of yesterday's thread yet and I hardly had any time on here due to my 'new' office chest of drawers causing a massive change-around of the downstairs furniture. It looks great but my DH polished it to within an inch of it's life with some old lavendar wax polish which smells a bit 'old-ladyish' (it's not me, honest) and it keeps making me sneeze. We also turned out the understairs cupboard - it's amazing how many boxes of lightbulbs you find hidden away when you avoid looking for them in case you find a spider! I also found my old jelly moulds which I shall use to make puddings for the grandchildren.

Today, I am icing my Christmas cake, doing a smallish pile of ironing, visiting the gym - I didn't have time yesterday - doing some more paperwork and making a plum and pear crumble. I have finally finished knitting 'Mr Bean's teddy' (for my DS2, aged 26 next month!). I just have to knit the ears - it's a huge teddy, a lot bigger than it looks in the pattern (an online freebie); I'm going to knit it a football scarf and bobble hat, as well.

PAM - hope you are feeling better today.

(((hugs))) to everyone who has been unwell lately.

Anyway, off to have another cuppa and a shower so see you all later.

    Morning everyone:hello:

It's cold this morning. DD2's asthma is playing up - it does every winter, and our heating system doesn't help. It's the blow air kind. So I was up with her in the night, thankfully the inhaler did it's job.

Today we're off to the church fete. The girls will be helping to sell cakes for guides / brownies and I'm hoping to spot a bargain at the donated stand. Last year I managed to pick up a brand new, still sealed disney cushion of snow white and dwarf cuddly toy for £2, which was an ideal christmas present for my niece. They were £15 in the disney store.

I've had heart burn since last night, so need to pick up some stuff from the chemist, and more milk as we seem to be going through it right now. 6pints since Wednesday evening, and I only have it in tea. DD1 just has a small amount on her cereal as she doesn't like it much, so DD2 has some explaining to do. I'm treading on eggshells with her right now though. [I've just re-read that and I sound quite mean really, moaning about milk, perhaps it is best to say nothing, otherwise I will start sounding like my own parents:rotfl: ]

_party_Happy birthday to your son dlb _party_

I felt old when DD reached her tenth birthday, so know how you feel. DD2 wont reach double figures until next October, although she's acting like a teenager already!

Hi cheerfulness4, unfortunately some more poison was taken yesterday so we obviously have more than the one I caught the other day. Traps are reset though and I have moved a trap closer to the poison. I don't know if it's psychological, but I can smell a mousey smell in the kitchen this morning. I've disinfected the sides just in case they were up there:mad:

Hope you manage to get some sleep churchmouse.

:grouphug: Hugs to all who need them today:grouphug:

It's :coffee: time. Thankfully there's enough milk left:rotfl:

:bdaycake: to everyone with a birthday

Don't usually post at the weekend, but just waiting for DH to get ready and then we are off to the auction. There is a job lot of Christmas cards in today, so might get those if they are the right price -just hope everyone hasn't already bought their cards, or they could be a long term investment

Pipkin, you are so brave, I hate mice and would have to live in the caravan if we had them

Got to go now, have a good day everyone x
You're only young once, but you can be immature forever :D
  • Oh bad luck Pipkin. My SIL says that she knows that the little critters have been eating the poison at her house because their poops have got blue bits in them.
