Kitchen aid - any good?

Hello,
I would like to buy one gadget that does everything, for baking, chopping/grating, blending etc. Can anyone recommend the Kitchenaid over the Kenwood chef to someone who currently has neither? I know this is an old debate but I just can't decide (even after reading thethreads on here)! Does someone have a definitive answer?? Importantly which is the easiest to clean (no dishwasher) and use in terms of changing attachments?
They have the Kitchenaid reduced on Amazon at the moment - it's £180 quid (thanks Grabbit board!):

Is this a good deal or would you still go for The Chef?
Thanks a lot

Does the one on Amazon come with the attachments to chop and grate?
The link i looked at only seemed to have a beater/whisk & dough hook.
Have you got room in your kitchen for it to be out all the time, one of the reviews comments that it is heavy to be moving about.
I don't have a proper mixer like this, just a little handheld 2 beater electric jobbie and that's a new purchase.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
I've got the Kenwood Chef - 32 years old, still going strong and I love it! Easy to clean, I keep mine in a cupboard but it's easy to get out, it's used regularly for bread and cakes - it copes easilly with large amounts for a batch bake.
I wouldn't be without mine!0 -
The Kenwood Chef is far superior, IMO.
We were fortunate enough to get the KM001 as a wedding present - it came with a blender as well as the usual attachments for the bowl.
It has a far more powerful motor (1000W vs 300W for the Kitchenaid IIRC), feels far more robust and I think has a wider range of attachments. You can pick up the Kenwood Chef attachments on eBay as well as from usual shops - they seem easier to get hold of as well.
It's in use daily and I wouldn't be without it!0 -
Had my Kenwood chef for 26 years, still going strong. Got it free when I bought an oven, the oven is no longer with us;)0

I really wanted a Kitchenaid a few years ago. The review were very positive. However, at that time, the cheapest I could find was around £350:eek: . There was no way I could afford that, so even looked at pricing for getting one shipped from the States - hugely expensive.
I was doing a bit of reading around on various mixers and came across a Delonghi mixer (sold in the States) it had great reviews from people. Some were actually saying how much better it was than the Kitchenaid. Guess what - it looked suspiciously like the kenwood major. So, some more digging led me to find that Delonghi America bought Kenwood a few years back. The fact that some reviewers raved about its superiority to the Kitchenaid was enough for me to go for a Kenwood.
I had an amazing stroke of luck while doing my daily check of Kenwoods on Ebay. Came across an auction selling a KM400 that had been given as a present, but never used. The liquidiser was included, and it was on a buy-it-now for the princely sum of £35:eek: . I could barely believe my eyes and read the ad through several times to make sure it wasn't actually just the liquidiser they were selling. So, I snapped it up and it's been everything I expected it to be - and more. I love it:D0 -
I have a kitchenaid. It is fab. Would not be without it. It makes the best bread.
I also have a kitchen aid blender which is fab.
I looked at both and decided on the kitchen aid as it looked nicer to me.0 -
Just been looking at the Kenwood website, they seem to have so many models which all look quite similar. Can anyone reccommend a particular model? I would like something in the middle-to-top-end of the range as I only want to buy one once in my life! Thanks0

Gosh Lily-Lu sounds like you had a super bargain with your Chef, very lucky! I couldn't find anyone selling that model at the moment though.
One vote for the kitchenaid, thanks FunkyFairy! I also like the 'looks' of the Kitchenaid.
Hearing so many good things about the Kenwood mixers though....
KMC560 looks ok, looking to spend about £250 so maybe my decision will be made on price rather than anything else. Are the top-end models £350+ just more powerful/bigger?0 -
I brought my kitchenAid from here. I have the Brushed Chrome Nickel Finish one but the coloured ones are £318.99 on the site.
