Need some new ideas for veggie meals
I feel like I'm cooking the same old things all the time, please come up with some new ideas! There aren't many veggie products available here (and what there is is expensive), so I'm cooking from scratch most of the time. Pulses are easily available, and you can buy huge bags quite cheap, so I'm thinking of batch cooking…

A little project you can all join in with!
Hi OS board!!!! Well, I've been here for yonks and flit about here and there, however, I need your help! My personal life has gone through an upheaval, and I am, for the first time, living alone. Okay, basically, I moved in 2 weeks ago and have almost nothing in the cupboards. (Started from scratch). My food budget…

Coffee in the freezer - why ?
I notice that other people often keep ground coffee in the freezer, and I wonder why. If there's a good reason, I'll start doing it, because you can use the coffee straight from the freezer. And is it just the opened packets that you put in, or the unopened ones as well ?

OS Daily Thread, Friday 26th October
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 26/10/07. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please…

It's the little things.....
Like many others I'm trying to put off the next food shop as long as I can. Having lost my meal plan (yet again ). I've been improvising with my cupboard and freezer stuff. I got all excited when I found a tin of kidney beans at the back of the cupboard that I didn't know I had. Thoughts of chilli ect ran through my…

Quick Query - Bakewell Pudding re-heating?
OK, so I should have asked in the shop, but I forgot, so now we're home and want to heat the Bakewell Pudding, and I'm not sure how long for. The website (http://www.bakewellpuddingshop.co.uk/post-a-pudding-c7.html) says 90 seconds in a microwave, but I have no idea what that means in terms of an electric oven. Don't want…

Sharwood's Soy Sauce
I consider myself a fairly experienced and competent cook. My casseroles are frequently specifically requested by family and friends. I have just been given a jar shaped bottle of Sharwood's soy sauce, and couldn't offend my dear old lady neighbour (who had won it in the Darby and Joan raffle) by refusing her generous…

Has anyone here heard of....
coconut butter/fat. Is it possible to buy in this country. I've looked everywhere and can only find coconut oil. The school my boys goes to asked me this year if I could help them and show how we celebrate Christmas in Sweden and it is one of the main ingredient to make some Swedish Christmas sweets.

Cooking Chocolate
Still on Nigella (see my frittata thread), what is good quality chocolate that I can cook with? I don't normally cook with chocolate, bf isn't too keen on it, so always make stuff like fruit flapjacks for him. I want to make Nigella's Rocky Road Somethingorothers, and the Intense Choc Cookies. Yum.

Frittata/Omelette
Just been looking up Nigella Express cos I had one of her programmes recorded on Sky + (those choc cookies just looked too good) and one of the recipes is for a frittata, but all the stuff in it is exactly what I would call an omelette. So what's the difference?

freezing bread and butter pudding
Hi guys! My in-laws just gave us loads of bread rolls (why is a long story) and we've eaten quite a lot but now what's left is getting a bit stale and I fancy a bread and butter pudding. But I don't think we'll eat it all straight away, so at what stage could I (or should I) freeze it? Should I make 2 and freeze a totally…

My Bread Feels Inadequate!
OK thought I'd have a crack at something different with the bread maker today. Decided on some dinner rolls (think thats what they were called - cant be bothered to fetch the recipe book from the kitchen). This is what they should look like (sorry about the small images, had phone on wrong settings): You cant really see it…

Help please, severe nut allergy, what icing to use?
Hya, My friend has been asked to make a novelty wedding cake. One of the guests has a severe nut allergy. Normally she just won't go near the cake as just touching it would make her react. But this girl is the brides sister and she really wants her to share a bit of her cake. So, my friend thought: I will just leave out…

Help me plan my weekly dinners!!
OK, I have made a conscious decision to do more home cooking instead of buying pre packed. The reason behind this is I am trying to save money on the weekly shop although I don't think ours is excessive Approx £50 a week - or is it? the other reason is I want to eat more fresh food, where I know the ingredients. It's only…
