coconut butter/fat. Is it possible to buy in this country. I've looked everywhere and can only find coconut oil.
The school my boys goes to asked me this year if I could help them and show how we celebrate Christmas in Sweden and it is one of the main ingredient to make some Swedish Christmas sweets.

Tesco Nutricentres sell it, and I also bought a small tub from the pharmacy area in Asda I think.
The one they sell in the Nutricentre is quite a big tub but cost about £10.00.
Hope this helps.I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are – Milton Berle0 -
All I know about it is that it is quite high cholesterol (I don't know why I know that!!)
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Coconut fat and oil are the same thing - coconut oil is a solid white fat, very high calorie (around 900 cals per 100grms), and high cholesterol. It's also pretty cheap - I buy a very large jar from my local chinese cash & carry and a 500ml jar costs an amazing 95p - can't imagine anyone paying £10 for it. As it's a sold white fat it's quite difficult to chip out of the large jar as well.
Looking at the jar I'm currently using I see it comes fron Sri Lanka and is packed in the UK by KTC Edibles Ltd of Wednesbury 0121 505 92000 -

....not quite sure why you'd use this in sweets as it doesn't have much flavour, just a slight coconutty smell, and is very liquid when heated. I use it in thai cooking. I also use blocks of 'creamed coconut' - these come as 200grm packs, like butter, of coconut concentrate which can be dissolved with water, or just chipped up and used neat when using coconut in recipes. Also from my chinese cash & carry and all of 39p for a 200g pack!0 -

Is Choklad =Ice chocolate is a typical Swedish Christmas sweet which is made really easily. I must admit that I have no clue where the name comes from, maybe because you have to store these chocolates in the fridge or else they’ll melt.
Ice Chocolate (makes ca 65st)
200-250g Bar of Chocolate
125g Coconut fat/butter
optional: chopped almonds or walnuts on top.
Break the chocolate into pieces and put it in a deep heatproof bowl together with the fat. Melt them at a rather low temperature in the microwave or on the cooker over a saucepan filled with boiling water.
Stir the mixture and pour it into the aluminium cups.
Store in the fridge, in airtight containers with a sheet of greaseproof paper between each layer0 -
Yes that would be the Coconut oil as per my first reply then as this would set solid again with the chocolate. Might try it myself!0

This article says that coconut oill and coconut butter are the same:
http://www.virgincoconutoil.co.uk/
but this one seems to say that they are different:
http://www.greenpasture.org/products/coconut_oil
But the majority do seem to say that they are the same thing, eg:
http://www.totalrawfood.com/products/&c=raw-food-section&r=raw-foods-and-snacks&p=coconut-butter&cat=17&range=75&product=334
so it just seems to be a question of choosing between the organic or extra virgin product and the cheapy version from Asian grocers. I can verify that the latter has no scent or flavour at all, and is the colour and texture of purified and very cold lard.
Does anyone have experience of the more expensive version? Would it be worth the extra cost?0 -
I understood that if you freeze a can of coconut milk, the coconut fat will separate into a layer at the top of the can and can be removed. I've only read this somewhere and haven't tried it thouigh“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

The cheaper coconut oils are made with refined oil.
The more expensive is made with unrefined and often organic oil. This type is used for all sorts of uses outside of the kitchen. I tiny fingernail full can be used as an oil treatment for hair, you can use it on dry skin as well.0
