Chocolate and cream help please.....
Hi Years ago my Mum used to let me make Easy Chocolate Cake. Now I am sure it was just chocolate, cream and nice biscuits. You would melt chocolate in bowl over pan of hot water and add cream (I think, I can't remember if anything else was used) You then lined a loaf tin and layered the chocolate mix and biscuits like a…

Cold chicken tikka / tandoori chicken
I've been buying the packets of cold chicken tikka / tandoori chicken from the chilled meat section in Asda. We really love it but at £5 for 2 packs it's not cheap and seeing as I regularly roast chickens and use the left overs for various things - why not this too? But I can't seem to think how to convert the cold roast…

Gingham's vegetarian meal planner - SUMMER
Okay, the idea is that I'll give a shopping list, details of my fruit and veg delivery (from Farmaround North) each week and my menu plan for my evening meals. Hopefully, it will give some ideas to other veggies or people looking to cut down on the amount of meat they eat. Or if you just fancy something different or want…

Hi everyone, We now have a new Pets and Pet Care board which is a sub-board of the Moneysaving in Marriages, Relationships and Families board so from now on that will be the best place to post any threads on pets. I am in the process of moving some threads over there so if you are looking for an older thread that you know…

Stopping damage to stored clothes?
I've just bought some suit bags (only the cheap ones from Wilkos) as I've noticed my "good" jacket & OH's suit are both getting dusty where they are hanging as they don't get worn very often (funerals and "posh" do's  ). At the moment they're just hanging on a rail in our room so bags are a BIG improvement…

Flour - self raising - which to buy
Hi I am sat here doing my tesco's on line order - trying to do the order and meal plan without getting distracted by MSE, but I have a quick question on flour. I have just looked at the prices of self raising flour and the difference between a branded flour, tescos and tesco value is huge. I cook lots of cakes - helped by…

Hellllpppp!
Hi all. I am sure you have had loads of 'I'm a TERRIBLE cook!!' threads, and yes, I don't think I am too blessed in the kitchen. My main problem is, when we have been to Tesco, I can make 'meals' made up of 1 part 'meat' (like a chicken kiev, pie etc), 1 part veg (usually frozen, I shamefully admit to buying bags of fresh…

Chicken soup reheating
Just a quick question about chicken soup. We have been budgeting in our house and doing quite well with it, and tonight I am going to make some soup from a chicken carcass and drumstick left over from a roast on Sunday. I've made chicken soup before but usually for a family of 4 where quite a large quantity is made and all…

Storing butter at room temperature
I'm sure, once upon a time, people kept butter at room temperature and didn't die of food poisoning. I was brought up on marg, so have no experience of this myself. How long does butter keep outside of the fridge? (That is, how long does it take to smell rancid?) Do you need to keep it in anything special, or just the…
