This might be a stupid question - but can strong white bread flour be used for anything other than bread? I have loads of it in the cupboard but have run out of ordinary flour and am trying to avoid a trip to the shops! Could I treat it just like plain flour do you think?

Why are people frightened of food ?
I'm talking about food safety issues. I've noticed that a lot of people are asking questions about how long they can leave meat and other food unrefrigerated, or how safe food is to eat after it's best before date, and other related matters. I wonder why there seems to be this 'fear'. 50 years ago our mothers and…

whole chicken in the slow cooker
Can't fit a whole chicken in my slow cooker (which is on loan from mum). To save me going out to buy one, how do I go about chopping bits off to make it all fit? I don't really need to learn how to joint a chicken to do this, maybe just cut his legs off?

What time can I put a slow cooker on?
Looks like I'm getting a free one in the next couple of days. :D The thing is we both leave the house at 6.45am and don't get back until 7pm ish. I guess 12 hours is too long? But if I were to get a timer switch for it to start later, is it safe leaving meat at room temperature for a couple of hours before it starts…

How do I get a denim stain out of a pale sofa
A friend's son sat down on our pale lilac suede sofa with damp jeans and left a nasty dark mark. (The jeans were damp because he'd been playing with water pistols). I have tried an upholstery stain remover but that did nothing and left a bit of a water mark so am not sure where to go from here

can I use distilled witch hazel for skin care?
I bought a bottle of distilled witch hazel from the chemist - very cheap for under a pound. I read that witch hazel can be used as for a toner for the face after you cleaned your make-up off.
