alll BMs are different
What sort is yours?
Youll need strong flour- plan flour wont rise- although on the morphy richards BM thread, PInk is using value flour as PART of the ingredients, not on its own tho
youll need sugar, vit c tablets, yeast salt, oil, sugar
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I don't use the vit c, it does not seem to make any difference. I mainly make wholemeal bread - Hovis flour is the cheapest at 68p per 1.5 kg (cheaper than own brand). Tesco own sachets of quick acting yeast - 1 sachet does 3 2lb loaves - dried milk powder the cheapest you can get, oil (I use sunflower), salt and sugar.
You need to refer to your hand book to get the amounts as I think that they are all different.
Good luck.

i've got one that probably no one has ever heard of lol a 'schneider' obviously a cheapy as my mum brought it for me years ago. i will have a dig round see if i can find the handbook.

I don't think I understand why different machines have different recipes so I'll post mine here in case you fancy trying it.
3 cups Asda smart ptice flour (a cup is 250ml)
2 m1/2 tbsps sunflower oil
1 1/4 teasp salt
6 teaspoons sugar
1 1/8 cup water
big dollop of fresh yeast
The fresh yeast is free in Asda (walk up to any supermarket bakery and get it free, you feel like they will think you are barmy but they do give it out free).
I mash the yeast and the sugar in the water (warm, not cold) before adding it all into the BM and switching on.
Its probably not the most amazing bread ever, and strong flour probably makes it tastier and lighter but its still nice and all gets eaten every time.
Good luck
Jill

:snow_grintesco do a few bread mixes all you do is add water starting at 48p online for cheese and onion bread mix its a snap, although I've just got my BM for myself as an early birthday pressie to me being a single mum with only my son for family it's a bit depressing but I make up for it myself, and got a cheese and onion bread mix from tesco online I'm going to have a go at make my own bread for the first time, so if no one hear's from me for awhile then you all know why, did'nt make it right.
Pls be nice to all MSer's

This is the bread recipe I use for a wholemeal loaf. This isn't from the machine handbook but from a bread machine recipe book I brought. It’s a much nicer loaf than I've got following my handbook recipes
Add in this order:
Large Loaf
1 and a half cups of water
4 tablespoons of milk powder
4 tablespoons of oil (vegetable or sunflower seem to work fine)
1 and a half of salt
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of honey
2 cups of plain white flour
2 cups of plain wholemeal floor
1 sachet of yeast!
Oh and I add seeds (pumpkin and sesame)
Yummy!!!!!! Good luck :T0 -
I make mine using value flour and they have always turned out nice.
280ml water (room temp)
1 tbsp powdered milk
1 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tbsp olive oil (or 30g of butter/marg)
1 tsp salt
400g flour
1/2 tsp of yeast
Mine is a breville machine but the recipe that came with mine was really crumbly. I posted my problem on here and some very kind lady suggested the above recipe. I have made it with strong branded flour, tesco strong flour, tesco & Somerfield value flour. At mo using tescos normal plain flour as when I got my delivery from my on-line order they were out of stock (surprise eh! not one bag of value stuff on the shelf!!!).
You can tell the difference in the texture slightly but not enough for it to bother us.
I set it as a 750g loaf, low crust setting.

I've been making mine with cheap plain flour for months now and it usually turns out fine (only when I'm experimenting with different recipes do I have loaves only fit for my rats and the wild birds).
My Cheapest White Loaf (~20-25p) 1.5lb
Originally taken from a Hovis flour packet but adapted since.
500g Cheap Plain Flour (9p - 27p for 1kg Asda Smartprice)
1 Blob (sorry but probably 0.5 - 1 ounce) of FREEBIE fresh yeast from Asda (or Tesco)
1 and 1/2 cups of water
1-2 teaspoons of sugar
1 and 1/2 teaspoons of salt
50g softened (not straight from the fridge) butter (11p - Asda Smartprice 250g 53p)
I start the fresh yeast with sugar and water then put all the ingredients in the bread maker for a basic white loaf.
Hope that's some use to you.I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
