I absolutely love Nescafe Vanilla frothy coffee...theone in the yellow box. This is okay when its on offer or in the poundshop but when I find I have to pay full price for it. its too much. Does anyone have any ideas where I can always get it cheaply or a way of making a similar coffee that is cheaper...thanks

            Hi Viv,
Whittards etc sell jars of vanilla flavoured instant coffee, for about £3.50, and since you'd probably only use 1tsp of coffee this could work out cheaper in the long run. Add a splash of milk and whisk/stir until frothy - if you have one of those little electric whisks Bailey's gave away they'd be great!
Alternatively, mix 1tsp instant coffee granules, 1tsp artificial sweetener, a splash of vanilla essence and 1tsp powdered milk. Add hot water, and mix/whisk til frothy.

you can buy flavoured syrups (vanilla, caramel, hazelnut) in Starbucks and most larger supermarkets, it's actually in the tea and coffee aisle... You jjust add it to the hot coffee to give your desired flavour...
OR....
The VERY handsome James Martin suggests... when you have scraped the middle from a vanilla pod put the left over pods in some sugar and it will make Vanilla sugar
Hope these help0 -
Thanks everyone. Am new to this site and am already finding it really useful . Having problems keeping track of tips, ideas etc ...then I had a brain wave.....I've cut and pasted your suggestions into a word documant so I can find it easily again.
My local aldi is having a refit but will open again thurs so I'll be queuing at the door. Also thinking of going to Tescos so will try there....thanksWe don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.0 -
I make my own with a mug of skimmed milk heated to boiling point and then frothed with one of those little whisk thingies, and then mixed with a tsp of vanilla extract and coffee and sugar to taste. It's lovely and not full of chemicals like the packet varieties.Jane

Oh yes it does - you can make up half a mug of regular coffee and then just top it with the frothed milk. Something else you can do, which friend of mine does and which tastes more like the packet stuff, is to mix four heaped tsps of Marvel (or any milk powder) in a mug with a tsp of coffee and tsp of vanilla with a little cold water to make a paste and then top it with boiling water and sugar to taste - I sometimes make it that way.vivw wrote:recovering spendaholic, do you think that would that work with less milk ?Jane
