Old Kenwood mixer - dishwasher safe..?

I've just got a lovely Kenwood mixer with all the gubbins from lovely, lovely Freecycle. It's an old-looking model (Kenwood A701a for afficionados), from about the 60s.

Does anyone know whether it's ok to put the attachments in the dishwasher?

And has anyone got a link to an instruction/ recipe book - I've had a search and found one or two links on old threads, but none of them work anymore, and there's nothing on the Kenwood site that I can find.

Thanks in advance.

I've got an old Kenwood 901 model (a snip off of Ebay :-)) and I put all the bits in the dishwasher. They've not showed any signs of distress!

If you really want an instruction book, just put "kenwood chef instructions" into the search box on Ebay - there are quite a few listed there.

Mine didn't come with an instruction manual, so I've just learned as I go!
  • Mine came from a charity shop and the kids really ridiculed it till the fashion for retro came in ....... everything except the machine goes in the dishwasher.

I have a 10 year old mixer, my husband oput the K-beater attachment in the dishwasher and it totally wrecked it, all the sort of coating came off and I had to buy a new one.
The mixer doesn't seem to mix so well now, the beater doesn't seem to sit deep enough so I am forever stopping the mixer and scraping round the bottom of it with a spoon. all very annoying.

I never put the bowl in the dishwasher anyway as its so big there's no room left for much else! And it is very easy to wash anyway.

I think mine must be from the 'pre-coating days' - it just seems to be metal, and nothing comes off if I scrape it with my thumbnail.

I think I'll try the dishwasher on something like the graters or the dough hook (got a breadmaker), before I risk the whisk bits that I really want to use.

The bowl doesn't look too bad to clean, being curved at the base - and surely the machine can do a lot of the work, if I put in a little water and a blob of washing up liquid!

JillD - I read on another thread that the height of the whisk can be adjusted. Don't know how, sorry, but someone else might..? Apparently there should be just enough clearance to get a sheet of paper between the bottom of the whisk and the bowl.

Oh, and I've now got an Ebay watch list full of KC instructions and recipe books. Actually, it's more the recipe book I fancy; the machine's fairly self-evident anyway.

    Thanks all.

Just to let anyone know who may be interested, I dishwashered the whisks and other attachments this afternoon - they came out absolutely fine, and made a delicious cake for tea! :j
  • I had to lower the whisk attachment - mine was too high and it missed the ingredients at the bottom - well I say I -mr HQ lowered it!

Thanks thanks thanks I will definitely try adjusting the height, at the moment I could get a whole ream between blade and bowl LOL

  • if the k-beater, etc are made from aluminium (as most of them are, esp the older ones) they will eventually go a bit dark and dull if being washed in the dishwasher - though this doesn't effect them except for their appearance.
