Need help getting white's white!
My daughters school uniform now includes a white blouse with the school logo embroidered on. They cost £13 each so I can't afford to replace them very often (as I used to with her old school shirts which were 2 for £2.50 at asda) The school she goes to is in a very old building and is FILTHY, so her blouses get really…

Homemade Tofu anyone?
Now don't laugh, I have done this before years ago, and it wasn't difficult either, but newly fired after reading a book (Radical Simplicity - Jim Merkel) I thought I might give it another go!! We eat way to much meat, eggs, dairy and the Bean Phobic DS will actually eat tofu, but like all other things, in huge quantities,…

Is it just me or have I missed something?
Someone answered a question for me yesterday and I wanted to say thank you - but couldn't. The Thanks button has disappeared from my screen? Is it just me? Have I missed something? Has it been abolished? Does anyone know how I can get it back? I do like to say thank you to people (and to be thanked in my turn)! All answers…

Ultimate in money saving
I only caught the start of the radio program as I was in the car. But it is about freegans. A bit more radical than freecycle. As you get your food etc for free. You can listen again here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/science/costingtheearth.shtml which I am just about to do myself. Yours Calley

Make Stick Deodorants last longer
Sorry if this has already been posted - I did a search and couldn't find any posts about it. Save your empty or broken stick deodorants (they always seem to come off in a big hunk when you get near the end!) You can scrape out the deodorant bits from the holder, put them in a microwave safe jug, and heat them until they…

A disaster that turned out ok!
We're having nibbles in the office today as three of us are moving office next week. I decided to do the fork cookies and the carrot cake from the OS recipe index. The cookies were fine, but the cake 'evolved' the recipe said it had walnuts in, but Tesco Express had no walnuts, so I substituted sultanas. Cooked…

Badly stained toilet seat
Not sure if this is correct board, but dithering between here or "In my home". Board moderator, please feel free to move. Thought best to start off here for cleaning suggestions. Problem is that MIL has a very badly stained burgundy plastic toilet seat lid (on the underside), due to looking after an elderly male relative…

Comparing prices
Hi all, I buy a lot of the same kind of foods on a regular basis - seeds, organic dried fruits, nuts etc. The price of these can range quite a lot from shop to shop. Is there a database for comparison of prices for common foods. The main supermarkets would be a good start. Cheers, Steve

Am I likely to get food poisoning?????
OK....you know the cooked chickens that you buy hot from the likes of Tesco and Morrisons etc? How long do you think you could keep one for? I bought two, two or three days ago and only needed one. The other was left in it's bag and put in the fridge (when it had cooled). I just remembered about it today. :D Still ok to…
