Also, i'm going to put in some of those…

How many loads of washing a week?
I always think my husband and I seem to do loads of washing each week, but maybe this is usual. We've only been living together for a year so still getting used to it. How many loads do other people do a week? When I wash the bedding this has to go in two loads as the machine can't cope with the sheet and king size duvet…

Do I really need to shower/bath EVERY day??
I've been really thinking seriously about cutting energy costs. I was talking to my sister the other day - their boiler had conked out, they had no hot water - I. said that's OK as your shower is electric. She replied that she didn't shower every day anyway. This really got me thinking. I have always showered daily as a…

How good are your OH's at food shopping?
Mine, bless him, is absolutely dreadful. He would quite happily live out of the Little Tesco if I let him and thinks nothing of paying their ridiculous prices. The cheapest bread they sell in the one by us is 80p a loaf!! He cannot understand why I like to have a stock of essentials or why the freezer has to have anything…

Knitting a Tea Cosy (merged)
Hi, I need to make a tea cosy. Unfortunately I can not knit. My mum is due to teach me - but I doubt I'll be up to tea cosy standard anytime soon! My DH loves tea, we use tea leaves and have a giant (10 cup) teapot. However he is complaining that the tea goes cold before he's finished and so I'd like to make him a tea…

How do I get rid of silverfish?
Not strictly old-style, but if anyone knows it will be someone on the OS board! I live in an old house that has a damp problem at the minute and with it has come an incredible infestation of silverfish. The landlady is coming this week to look at the damp but based on previous history it might take *years* to solve. In the…

tinned sardine recipes
Is there any kind of nice meal that can be made with tinned sardines? I am thinking of a pasta dish or maybe some kind of pate? Just had tinned sardines with butter and capers mushed up and stirred into pasta. Was OK but I'm not sure I'd feed it to anyone else!

How Do I Make HM Yoghurt?
After making my own bread, butter, cakes, pizzas, sausages etc, I'm now looking at making my own yoghurt. I know that a lot of OS MSEs make their own yoghurt so I'm really looking for what works best. I know there are some systems you can buy where you just add water to 'yoghurt' powder - I think they are called EasyYo but…

Altering wool coat - advice required
I've got an expensive black wool trench coat from Wallis (bought pre-mortgage and pre-children!) which is a little too big for me. It's got two patch pockets with flaps, and these make the coat look even bulkier. I was thinking of unpicking the pockets and flaps, but wondered if the stitches would leave marks in the rest…
