Board Guiding
We have recently had some discussion here in Old Style about which threads belong where. While I know that there is a good community spirit in Old Style, this is ALSO true of the entire collection of MSE chat forums. The basic concept of the whole site is that we are one big family of Money Savers. We each have different…

Now, I know you guys like a challenge! Can anyone come up with a good pudding suggestion to feed 30 this Sunday? Background: every 3 months or so I cook Sunday lunch for 30 at my local church. The food has to be fairly traditional (the majority of guests are older people), home-made and cheap. Oh, and it's got to be…

CHRISTMAS No-not about presents!
I love Christmas. My family have had traditions for over 30 years that I still enjoy. However, my son will be 2 by the time Christmas arrives and it's time we started our own Christmas traditions as a family unit in our own right. (Although I dare say I will still shout up the chimney to Santa like I have since I was my…

Dryer Balls - are they any good?
I have been toying with the idea of buying some dryer balls - I don't tumble dry very often. They cost around £10. Do you think they are any good anyone? I understand they are supposed to save drying time and be less harmful on the environment. I wouldn't use it at all but I do like a fluffy towel!

Stick Blender - contains merged threads

Wanting help with packed lunches.
We are very tight financially at the moment, and as oh spends £2 ish per day on a sandwich at work I am looking for ways to make this cheaper. In the past we have found that if we buy a loaf or bag of rolls they are only good on the same or next day so end up using them for croutons or breadcrumbs etc instead, or otherwise…

My land fill rubbish challenge
I knew I wasn't throwing a lot of rubbish into my non-recycling bin because it was usually two, sometimes three, half filled non compressed carrier bags worth per fortnight. If two products on the shelf are similar in quality and price I'll buy the one that has the least packaging or packaging that looks like it will…

offal - cheap and definitely old style
There was a feature about offal and other now rarely used cuts of meet - heads and feet and so on...on the food programme, radio 4 this weekend. What offal do you like? Why be squeamish when it's so cheap! I like liver when it's cooked properly, ds1 likes tripe, I also like kidney but mostly in steak and kidney pie or…

Cardboard Boxes and children
How many times have you heard the old saying that the kids prefer the boxes to the toys? Well I know that I used to play with boxes when I was little but I underestimated just how much fun an empty box can provide. I've just discovered that my 21 month old is a chip off the old block. After watching her play with/in a…

1st loaf in new BM - tastes YUK!
 Well, my first wholemeal sandwich loaf was ready at 6am. It didn't rise, felt a bit squidgy and I've just made sandwiches with it....tasteless and too moist :( I followed the Panasonic recipe to the letter - so what's gone wrong? Do I add Vit C? Less water than the recipe states? At least the birds…
