Dryer Balls - are they any good?

I have been toying with the idea of buying some dryer balls - I don't tumble dry very often. They cost around £10. Do you think they are any good anyone? I understand they are supposed to save drying time and be less harmful on the environment. I wouldn't use it at all but I do like a fluffy towel!

I think that new tennis balls are supposed to do the same jobIf I screw my eyes up tight I can just about see where you're coming from0

I had to look them up on the internet as I thought it was something to do with men getting out of the bath
How do they work? I found this site about them but I can't understand how they would make your clothes softer?

It's because they stop the clothes lumping together, sticking to the side of the drum and not tumbling properly. They bounce around and keep them moving0

I use an old tennis shoe to soften up my towels etc. Works best if you use a shoe you've not trod in dog muck in and have washed before hand.:DLife's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0

How would a tennis ball/shoe work? I thought it was the nobbly bits on the dryer balls that made them work - going to try a tennis ball tonight - do you need one or two?[size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!

It's the bashing about through the fabric that makes the whole thing work. imagine stiff and startchy towels off the washing line. If you scrunch them up and rub between your hands you will soften them up to a degree. the tennis ball/shoe/dryer ball works in the same way. HTHLife's a beach! Everything will probably end up covered in yellow fluff! Will keep you posted.
But I agree 2 balls are usually better than one[size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!

I don't suppose 2 tennis balls would hurt.
I know that when my daughter is drying just one t shirt (yes, it is annoying) it helps speed up the drying by putting a dry towel in with the t shirt - without it it just sticks to the side and doesn't tumble in the air, so you need something to give the clothes a bit of a kick to loosen them - well, that's the theory0
