Happy to waste it!
Having been on a diet I haven't had any fried food for over a year. Looking in the cupboard yesterday I noticed I still had some cooking oil in the back. Wondering what to do with it I noticed it was out of date by 6 months, so I ditched it. Giving how healthy I am now and how much weight I've lost, I can tell you I was…

What other treasures to look for in an asian supermarket?

count your blessings one by one....I don't have this....I don't do this
I have just been having a 'blessing counting' session, I do this from time to time but today I widenend it slightly. It goes without saying that all my loved ones whether they have 2 legs or 4 are all featured very strongly and I'm grateful to have every one of them. It also dawned on me all of the don't do's and have…

Any advice on concealing the smell of vinegar?
I'm trying hard to be a good little Moneysaver, so when my shower spray ran out (you know the kind that you spray around the bath after your shower and it keeps it all nice and clean), I decided to take a bit of inspiration from the posts on here, and make one out of distilled white vinegar and water :) HOWEVER...it REEKS…

Stylish Poverty - we old stylers are so far ahead of the game
Found out today that a German aristocrat (Alexander Graf von Schoenburg-Glauchau) has written a book on how the poor can live the good life called The Art of Stylish Poverty. Apparently everybody is raving about it and it has sold loads and loads. The book is a result of losing a well-paid job as a columnist three years…

Supermarket Prices for British Meat
Apologies if this has been discussed previously. In the BBC2 Country File programme on Sunday 1st May, they featured supermarket meat prices. The presenter bought three types of pork from one supermarket and then traced the meat back to the original farms. One type (a) was organic with the soil association logo.…

Spendaholics programme
Did anyone see 'Spendaholics' the other day? It concerned a woman who was in thousands of pounds of debt and was spending £500 A MONTH on groceries for just her and her husband! The counsellors suggested she cut that to £250 A MONTH and thought this was radical!!! I felt like screaming 'old style old style old style old…

Getting to know you........
I'm just curious to ask what all the 'old style' contributors do when not contributing. I expect that there a good number of stay at home full time parents, maybe some of us work at home, perhaps some are part-time workers that can use the computer at work or at home or both. I guess also that there are some students out…

What are you Old Style goals? (longer term)
Some Old Style ways which I read about on here are simply not possible for me right now, but in the longer term, I hope to make them a part of my overall lifestyle. Among them are:-* keep a few chickens * grow my own fruits, veggies and herbs * learn to cure my own bacon/hams (I need a bigger kitchen!) Do you have long…

Good ol' fashioned .....
.... Humble Pie! :D Thought I'd share some with you ... ... there will always be ideas, ways of doing things, personal preferences, fixed ideas based on what we do, how we do it and why we do it. Sometimes, I read things and I think to myself, "ooooh, no, not for me". Then, for whatever reason, I find I'm not quite so…

How to store cheese
How do you store your cheese to enjoy at its best. I am talking hard cheeses here like cheddar. I used to wrap in foil and keep in fridge but someone recomended using a tupperware tub so I have moved to this. I find though that moisture builds up in tub. Also I hate my cheese too cold so I have to remember to take it out…
