I'm trying hard to be a good little Moneysaver, so when my shower spray ran out (you know the kind that you spray around the bath after your shower and it keeps it all nice and clean), I decided to take a bit of inspiration from the posts on here, and make one out of distilled white vinegar and water
HOWEVER...it REEKS
Although impressed by how clean it's keeping the shower, my hubby has banned it because it reminds him of the smell of vomit
(sorry!)
Has anyone tried adding essential oils or anything to a spray to mask the vinegary smell, or got any other good ideas? We spray last thing at night, and it still smells even in the morning
Thanks!

What ratio are you putting in the vinegar to water?
I simply wipe down with just a clean cloth on a daily basis.
Once a week it gets a 'proper' clean and the window is open for "airing" the room.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

About one part vinegar to 3 parts water, which looking at the thread Traf linked, seems even less than some of the Vinegarettes (or should that be Vinaigrettes?) are using.
We (well, *I*) did a really thorough clean this weekend, and are now determined to keep it tip-top clean - it's all white tiles and everything and gets grubby very quickly
It sounds silly but it didn't occur to me that you could open the window *rolls eyes* so I could try that too

There are loads of other tips indexed in a Zillions sticky at the top of the Old Style board - which also links to long thread full of good adviceHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. I've taken on lots of the fantastic tips from this site on board already - now got a sparkling and limescale free shower tray thanks to vinegar and water - have put bicarb, vinegar and salt down all the plugholes and they're all running away much better now.
However the smell of the vinegar is making me feel really sick and I was wondering if adding a drop or two of an essential oil would help - or if it would affect the cleaning powers.
Does anyone do anything to help with the smell, or do you just get immune to it after a while?Initial Mortgage January 2024 - £160,000

Cut a lemon in two then rub its "wet" parts all over the areas affected by the vinegar.
Or you could try some diluted bleach (very little in water is sufficient if you can't stand bleach smell either).
Or you could brew some coffee and wash down with this.
All the above are good at overpowering other smells, even mouldy ones. But you have to experiment to see the appropriate strength required in your case.
Good luck!Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -

Its a bit late for you now, but during the summer, I cut down some of my lavender bush and popped it in my vinegar bottles, now I have lovely lavender vinegar, much nicer :-)0
