I do put in essential oils, and although there is still a hint of vinegar it ends up with quite a pleasant fragrance - I used lemon and something else last time but I can't remember what :/

I often add some lemon juice to the vinegar and also some essential oil. I only have a faint smell of vinegar which disappears very quickly.

Just making sure of the obvious - you do dilute your vinegar don't you? :)

  • If you get some tea-tree oil, the proper essential oil and not a fragrance one, then you have the added benefit that it has anti-bacterial properties as well as a lovely smell :)

I even add a couple of drops to some cheapo bubble bath or shower gel to use as a hand cleanser too and it works out much cheaper than stuff like carex etc ;)

I didn't know you had to dilute the vinegar - I've been sloshing it around as it comes.
Thank goodness you thought to mention it - my house could be rotting around me as I write.
  • Thanks for all the advice - was thinking some lavender would be good - yes I did dilute the vinegar I mad sure I read all the tips on the indexed thread first before I started cleaning. Off to get some proper essential oil I think

I've been reading the virtues of using vinegar for cleaning but when I've used it for cleaning my kitchen etc the whole place just stinks of vinegar! How do I get rid of the smell of vinegar?

When I use vinegar the smell wears off in about 30 minutes. My house is draughty though.

  • Could be that you are using too much? You only need a small amount added to water.
Try lighting a match and or candle that is another way of clearing smells from a room.
