Ok please dont laugh. I went to Asda earlier and thought id have a go with vinegar and cleaning my kichen, bathroom etc. I thought the smell was very strong. Hubby walks in and says the house stinks. I have to agree with him. Ive brought distilled white vinagar. Is this the one I should be usin? I just know your going to say no. Also any tips for getting rid of the smell?
Silly I know but commited to cutting back I am
Thanks

Oh dear! I think I remember reading that you're supposed to dilute it, though by how much I don't know.
Curry_Queen and HLK are quite well up on this - you could PM them and see if they could pop in here and help.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. Do stick with vinegar as it works a treat!
Yes it does need to be diluted. At first it does seem strong if you haven't used it before.
My fella used to take the p*ss saying we had people knocking on the door for fish and chips!!
Dilute away and smell goes very quickly I promise.;)
JT xIt's great in here!0 -
White wine vinegar isn't quite as pungent but basically for any job start of with a well diluted solution , if this doesn't work add a wee bit more..
sounds a bit iffy I know but you'll get the hang of it.. 'everything in moderation'..
and maybe a full house clean with the sarson's is a biy OTT..!
Good LuckHLK

What you could do is to add a few drops of essential oil in future just to counteract the initial vinegar smell if you really don't like it, but it doesn't usually last very long anyway and is soon absorbed into the atmosphere. I remember feeling just as you do when I first used it, and it almost put me off, but I persevered and have got used to it now"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

will come back to you three times as strong!

Hold on ... what's all this about? I hate using chemicals for house cleaning. Are we saying that vinegar is good? If so, please give an approx. dilution and the type to get.
What do we use for bathroom?0 -
I cleaned my mum's windows today and all she had was brown malt vinegar. Just sploshed some in a bowl of warm water - about as much as I'd use of my chips, got my trusty microfibre cloths and off I went. Lovely squeaky clean, non-streaky and non-smelly windows, even done in brilliant sunshine.
I get distilled vinegar - it's the ordinary clear stuff you pick up in the supermarket for between 50 and 65p per 500ml. I have used it neat on the cloth to rub over the surfaces and the smell soon goes. It's summer soon - open those windows and let the breeze blow the smell away. Air fresheners are poisonous anyway0 -
