count your blessings one by one....I don't have this....I don't do this

I have just been having a 'blessing counting' session, I do this from time to time but today I widenend it slightly. It goes without saying that all my loved ones whether they have 2 legs or 4 are all featured very strongly and I'm grateful to have every one of them.
It also dawned on me all of the don't do's and have not's that I'm grateful for..for example, I have never smoked so I have saved countless hundreds of pounds on this, I'm not wild about fashion and so long as I can get something that is presentable from the charity shop I'm as happy as a pig in...again countless hundreds or thousands saved over my adulthood.
What about grooming? I started to cut my hair and gave up the battle with the grey at the same time, it all looks perfectly good even though I say so myself. I haven't set foot in a hairdressers for over 20 years - again hundreds of pounds saved.
So often it's not what you HAVE that gives pleasure sometimes it's what you don't need that is to be celebrated :T

I count blessings too. I used to moan 'I wanna be a size 10 again' (actually, sometimes I still moan about that). Then I think 'well I have a body and everything works properly so I have no reason to moan'. Sometimes I walk round the house going 'We have so much stuff, there's really nothing to complain about.'
My sis-in-law told me she was too fat (she's a size 8/10). I said 'too fat for what?' she said 'ummmmm...............' I said 'exactly'

Yep. Bought a proper barber's razor thingy fifteen years ago for forty quid. Not paying for haircuts for that long must be worth thousands! Plus I get instant service from my barber 'cos my barber is me

I'm mobile again, which is great
And being here on MSE is a real treat

I agree with tom and barb. Great attitude!!!! I also saved a great deal of money by not going to the hairdressers. My hair is now down my back but i have recently given in and had it permed. I still dont intend to have it cut regularly though - and will colour it myself when necessary (i mean when the grey hair starts to show through). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. My two dogs would be very high on my list of blessings. Apart from them loving me unconditionally they also provide me with daily exercise. And dog walkers are such a friendly bunch, I always get cheery greetings and sometimes stop to chat with other dog walkers even though I don't know them from Adam. It seems that dog owners have a common bond of friendship

That's so true. People I have passed on a daily basis for 20 years or so now speak when I 'borrow' my friend's dog. A bit scarey too because I'll happily talk to anyone if they've got a dog with them but am wary of a lone 'dogless' man - so, all rapists etc!!!!!0 -
What great posts from great posters:A A continuing theme seems to be that our best blessings have nothing to do with money! Here's mine
The greatest blessing I have is my faith in God. I cannot buy it, I cannot earn it - it cannot be taken away from me. It has given me support and hope during some of the very darkest times and provided a concience during the good times. The older I get the more it teaches me. The more I learn the more I realise how little I know.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
I tend not to think in terms of what I "haven't" had/got so I never feel a need to ponder on any 'pleasure' gained through not having/doing something I didn't need/want/desire in the first place.I've never learned to ski, so look how much money I've saved and I'm grateful because I didn't break my leg doing it or get buried under an avalanche?????However, I *do* focus on positives.

I count my blessings that I have a
Roof over my head and it does not leak
Food in my belly and I can afford something nice to fill it
Clothes on my back that are clean and not threadbare or holey
clean fresh water to drink and bathe in
Loving husband that has the same goals as I do
little extra to allow me a couple of hobbies like cross stitch and card making
my eyesight to allow me to do the above
my health allowing me to walk 3 miles today in to town and back
my family close by who I can talk to and see everyday if I so wish
I suppose the main one is just being alive and painfree.
Think that is about it
Yours
