Stylish Poverty - we old stylers are so far ahead of the game

Found out today that a German aristocrat (Alexander Graf von Schoenburg-Glauchau) has written a book on how the poor can live the good life called The Art of Stylish Poverty. Apparently everybody is raving about it and it has sold loads and loads. The book is a result of losing a well-paid job as a columnist three years ago, having the bailiffs at his heels and trouble fending for his wife and three children. In the book he unveils the secrets of leading a quality life on very little money, based on his own experiences. While his advice might appear obvious and familiar to us old stylers, his proclamations are the equivalent of calling for a social revolution in Germany! If you do a google you can read all about him or click on this

However, the point is we Oldstylers on MSE are already so far ahead of the game - we are leading a trend all of our own, and all of you out there should be soooooo proud of what you are doing, because what we are already doing today (out of choice or not) a lot of people will have to do out of shock and necessity in the future.

Just wanted to let people on here know how fantastic you all are and that the rest of the world is just waking up to the way we do things.

Maybe this message should have been posted in Queenie's "Old Fashioned" post thread to give encouragement to those who feel like giving in. Please don't, changes take time and some changes just aren't for everyone.

(BTW only joined this site a couple of months ago and have already made so many changes in the way I do things. It is truly addictive)

But it's in German and I can't speak German, I'd much rather read your book Sarah :)

Get writting it quick before some muppet like the woman off spendaholics writes one full of no- experience, no-sense complete and utter rubbish that puts people off old style books!

Think about it, an Old Style book, just like The Money Diet, can't be a bad idea at all ... so Martin has structured his book around the concept of a "diet". How would Old Stylers go about structuring our book?

Oh, did anyone read the bit about "elegant economies" in the Times article?

i take offence to the idea that we should all find 'an old aunt' to darn our socks for us - lazy so-in-so!
and he has quite funny ideas about what the Queen spends her time doing (tramping around the country in rubber boot and eating safeway savers cornflakes apparently!)
    - fascinating stuff though!

Would that have been the same article we've just been talking about on the Debt Free Wannabe board?
