Buying used cars and consumers act protection
We bought an used car from CarsJunction in Wandsworth late May/early Jun with an extended warranty. We also used a credit card as part of the payment for added legal cover and the choice of buying a car from a business over a private seller was the added protection it offered. The AC wasn’t working but the car dealership…

Which HPI?
There are loads of companies offering "HPI" checks other than HPI, some including their £30k warranty. I realise some will be OK and others not provide such a comprehensive check. Can anyone recommend a decent one who provides a good value package of 3 checks? thanks

Car Accident
Hi Everyone, Unfortunetly, I had an accident today when driving. I was driving up a road, when a flat pack van coming down the opposite way came down and some material, I think plastic came flying off the back of the van and has cracked 90% of my windscreen. The van didn't stop and sped away. I do have this all recorded of…

Buying car at end of PCH - discount?
Hi all. It's been a while since I've been on here. I've tried Google for an answer to this but wasn't getting anywhere so I thought I'd ask the MSE forum experts. My PCH car lease ends next month. It's a VW group car and they let you offer to buy the car via BCA (British Car Auctions), who act on their behalf for…

So, I went to my MOT appointment three days ago and my MOT failed and the garage has said it won’t be able to get the job sorted until next week. I need my car urgently. On the gov website it says:
“You only need a partial retest if you leave the vehicle at the test centre for repair and it’s retested within 10 working…

Looking to buy a small, used car. Help!

I'm looking for a small used car for no more than £4k. (Ideally no more than 8 - 9 years old, and with no more than 70k on the clock.) I'll mainly just…

CAR BREAKDOWN COVER NOT REQUIRED - REFUND?
My named driver had to take out expensive breakdown cover when my car broke down 150 miles away (she couldn't find my own policy at the time). They towed her to a local garage. But she doesn't need it - she uses a mobility scheme car - is there any way she can get a partial refund? We don't need 2 policies for my car.…

Luxury Car Tax
I'm just about to buy a used car which attracts the luxury car tax. It was originally registered in May 2018 and DVLA say it attracts the tax until end of April 2024. When I tax it this month, August, I know I'll have to pay the £140 hybrid tax plus £325 luxury tax. My question is this; if I keep it past April 2024, is the…

Conditional Sale Finance Reported on HPI check
Hello, I paid for a ford focus including a part exchange at the trust ford Edgware dealership. The dealer had informed me that all their cars are free of finance and HPI checked when I first spoke to him. As this is a Ford main dealer I did not feel the need to run a HPI check myself before paying for the car. I decided to…

Renault Scenic handbrake woes
My Reanault Scenic (2004) has always ticked along nicely. Yesterday it had a new coil spring and today it was obviously feeling put out about it! The electric handbrake went from working perfectly normally to nothing at all. No whirring of the 2 electric motors beneath the car, just a handle that now feels like it’s doing…
