Which HPI?

There are loads of companies offering "HPI" checks other than HPI, some including their £30k warranty.

I realise some will be OK and others not provide such a comprehensive check. Can anyone recommend a decent one who provides a good value package of 3 checks?

thanks

I remember someone posting that they had got a cheap check and it missed valid history of the car, I didn't follow the rest of the thread but it looked like the police were due to cease the car with not much chance of recompsense from the company (perhaps his £2.50 back).
So the moral is an unknown cheap service could well be a false economy.

Not sure why this keeps getting asked. There's only one company that officially does an HPI - https://www.hpi.co.uk/, others simply use their services.

Because the website that hosts this forum is called Moneysavingexpert so it's not beyond the wit of man to expect questions on this particular category to be regarding saving money on motoring. While all replies are welcome, yours didn't address the issue of whether the companies that use their services give as comprehensive a check. Do you know?

I would imagine that motoring clubs may offer some small discount, HPI themselves do various services, I guess a preliminary check on prospective cars with a full check on the one you decide on, sometimes one has to spend money to save.

Just because something is cheaper doesn't automatically make it better value.  People should always weigh up pros and cons, and decide whether they will get full value for something cheaper.  With something that can cost you thousands,  I would say that less than £30 for 3 checks within 2 years isn't poor value, especially when having done due diligence a lot of the cheaper ones don't have the guarantee.

Couldn't agree more - hence my OP asked about good value rather than low price. For example RAC offer 5 checks for £30, redeemable in a more realistic "any time" rather than 2 years, and also includes the £30k guarantee. Seems on the face of it to offer all the necessary checks but I've not bought a car in years and am wondering if anyone here has used one of the other data miners.
