Congestion charge hike for pre 2006 cars
I hadn't noticed this on the TV news, but the London congestion charge is being raised by £10 for pre 2006 cars, thus hitting the poorest motorists:( It doesn't affect me, but it will hit a large number of people very hard, because they will have to pay £21.50 instead of £11.50 to drive in the congestion zone area. The…

Car Insurance
My car insurance quotes seem to have increased by £300 since moving into a new build property which is only 3.5 mile away from original property. Is there advise to get this cheaper? Circa £500 to circa £800 is a massive difference. I'm 26 and have 5 years no claims and have had full licence for 4 years.

Mechanic? Couple of van niggles please.
Just a couple of niggles on my friends NV200 van which I'd like to get some second opinion on... There's a slight droning noise the van. Seems to not be related to the transmission / gear changes. Basically it sounds like a weird hum, as if some inlet or fan is slightly blocked or caught on something. After awhile, it…

Merseyflow Runcorn bridge toll PCN
Hello everyone, not sure if any of you are aware of the new bridge that has been erected to cross the mersey river at Widnes/Runcorn but to cut a long story short you have to pay £2 for each crossing made even though the existing bridge which was free to cross has now been closed forcing drivers to use the toll bridge. I…

car tax nightmare
I understand this is entirely my fault but I still need a solution pretty urgently, so bear with me! I need to tax my car, I've been paying monthly from my joint account (which I now can't do, post divorce) I thought it would be pretty straight forward, cancel the direct debit as per DVLA instructions, then set up the new…

Ex FMRC cars on dealer forecourts
I'm looking for a new-ish Ford Focus and have been talking to dealers - this is definitely a steep learning curve! I am being told that ex FMRC (on the V5) means ex Ford Motors Retirees something or another, ie that retirees get lease cars for 6-9 months (or up to a year, dependent on who you talk to!), and then return the…

ECU remapping
So lots and lots of places are promising increases BHP and fuel economy. Sounds too good to be true like some sort of tacky gimmick. I'd assume the stock ECU is designed to maximize longevity of the component and keep things within a certain tolerance? I can't imagine a manufacturer would purposely cripple their vehicles,…

Parking in central Romford
Anyone living in Romford or know? I will be living in a flat next to the station that has no parking. What are my options? Where can I find parking close by, in a reasonable price or free with permit and with a reasonable availability (ie I will find a space every day, not once a month) Thanks!

Replacement Remote Car key
Just wondered if anyone has used the Timpsons service to have a spare key cut for their car? If so what was the cost? Had a fright last week when I had thought I lost my keys, I found them eventually but I have no wish to go through that again. The car is 2012 Astra with a remote fob and swivel blade key combined. TIA

Should I fix my 17 year old car?
I took my 2000 Nissan Micra for MOT this week and have been told the repairs will be around £500. I've taken it to a local mechanic who I believe is trustworthy. As the car is 17 years old it's probably only worth around £150-200! My other option would be to buy a 'new' used car for around £700-1000, however I'm aware that…
