car tax nightmare
I understand this is entirely my fault but I still need a solution pretty urgently, so bear with me!
I need to tax my car, I've been paying monthly from my joint account (which I now can't do, post divorce)
I thought it would be pretty straight forward, cancel the direct debit as per DVLA instructions, then set up the new direct debit with my own account, easy right?
Problem is, for that you either need the V5C or the V11 reminder letter... I have neither.
I don't know where the V5C has gone (I don't have it and neither does my ex wife apparently), the V11 will have gone to the old house, which neither of us live at anymore as would a replacement V5C.
The DVLA says download a V62, pay £25 and send it off, however, having spoken to the DVLA, it can take up to 6 weeks to arrive!
My car tax will run out on the 31st of this month and it appears I have no way of sorting it out prior to this.
The alternative option would be to declare the car SORN but by the looks of it I need the V5C for that as well.
I'm pretty stuck here, I have enough money to buy another car as a replacement in the interim but don't want to be hit with a fine for no tax and not declaring SORN, because I cant!
Is there a solution?

Is the joint account still open as it sounds from your post? Whose name is it in presumably as a sole account?
If it's your ex-wife's sole account and you're roughly on speaking terms, could you not offer to give her the cash/bank transfer to pay the DD for another month? Surely that would save the issues all round.
That will be the easiest and likely only way to keep your car on the road while you're waiting for the new paperwork to arrive.💙💛 💔0 -
I've already cancelled the direct debit from the old account so even to set it up again, I'd need the numbers on the paperwork from the DVLA0

You tax it at the post office using the V62 form simple0
-
The only suggestion I have is to download that V62 and send it off first thing Monday morning and hope for the best.0

If you have lost your V5C Registration Certificate, you can tax using a (V62) form for taxing a vehicle

No need to hope for the best0 -
I've already filled in a V62 so I'll take that to the post office with my MOT cert and insurance docs on Monday.
Thanks guys, wasn't sure when I read it online so thanks for clarifying.0 -
If your VED is currently on DD, then you will not receive a V11, it'll simply be renewed - so long as the DD hasn't been cancelled, and there is sufficient funds.0
