Last car for retirement.
Hi everyone, thinking of buying a final car for mostly shopping and the occasional fair weather trip further afield. At the moment I am toying between an old shape 2010 Panda 1.2 Dynamic Eco with 66k miles and all the service history cambelt etc. done, or same age MCC Smart Pulse MHD 40k miles and service history. Not…

Could it be time to move on?
I have a 55 reg Citroen C4 automatic. I have had if for nearly three years and has been reliable. Apart from routine costs eg brakes, tyres, service it has been reasonable to run in terms of costs. However this year I have so far spent £440 on fixing the heating and fan problem. It is now due the following work -timing…

Massive non issues with cars
I'm at my wits end with nowhere else to turn. We have bought 2 brand new cars recently, a new TT diesel sport Ultra and a Chevrolet Orlando diesel LT. Looking at the posts on here I'm really worried that I have not bought duff cars. There are lights on the dashboard though, the Chevrolet has a green arrow whenever I turn,…

Just saved almost £400 on car insurance renewal
My wife has her own driving school and her insurance is due for renewal. So as you do you look for cheaper car insurance, baring in mind the renewal was £865 with 2 years NCD with her present insurer, I searched different providers and was getting quotes varying from £705 to £1256. I came across an independent specialist…

Bad service at garage - engine coolant
Hi everyone, I've just joined after reading the main site for many weeks. It has been very informative. I've tried having a look on the web and on the main site but can't find anything that fully matches the issue I have at present. I took my car to a local garage last week as the timing belt needed replacing. The car is a…

Compare the Market insurance quotes changing when you refresh the page
Anyone else experienced this? I got three quotes in the space of 24 hours, and each time a different insurer came up cheapest, for wildly different prices. The first one I got had a cheapest of ~£400 from Churchill. Using the same details (I went into the Edit screen, but didn't change anything) I refreshed the quotes…

Penalty Points and Insurance
Yep... it happened. Got caught overtaking at a bit over the limit! SP30! :( My insurance is due for renewal in a few months with an Admiral Multicar policy. Any idea how much of a hike I'm likely to see given that I now have this blot on my copybook? I currently am paying £410 annually for a Mercedes C220 CDI with 22,500…

Used car bought 10 weeks ago now undriveable.
I traded in my last car on 19th Jan this year for a Kia Sorento 56 plate with 75,000 on clock. I bought it from a very well known dealership, was offered extended warranty but politely refused. They classed the car as a runabout so they told me that it didn't qualify for 3 months warranty even though I paid over ,6k for…

Insurance charging me £700 for a cancelled policy
So i was insured with tesco for their black box insurance and had been paying £220 a month with 5 months left on the policy, but one of my payments i gave late which lead to them sending me a letter demanding the outstanding payment for the last 5 months in one go; and obviously because im a student i cant afford to pay…

Lidl corded Impact wrench 29.99
I got one of these on the weekend Lidl branded "Parkside". It is a corded 1/2 drive impact wrench. I am thinking of taking it back. It is too fast, it has two modes of operation on or off, when it is on it spins about 3000 rpm and it rips itself off the bolt or maybe breaks your wrist. It is too violent to be of much use,…

Scam calls after car accident
Hi, I'm hoping someone here can help me! I 'rear-ended' another car in June last year. I accepted responsibility and the claim was settled through my insurance company. A couple of months after this, I started getting calls from a company calling themselves TenTen (could also be Ten Ten or 1010, I'm not sure of the…

Can I change insurers half way through?
I pay monthly to CO-OP insurance but a look around at the weekend found an insurer that can provide better cover for a lot less each month. Can I simply cancel my existing policy with CO-OP with immediate effect without penalty? Thanks F x

Please help! Rental Car Hire damage!
Hi All, I've rented a car for a few days - had a very traumatic drive, got stuck down a flooded B road during heavy rain. Scraped front left side bumper on trying to reverse out the road. I wasn't so worried at the time - mainly because I was happy to be safe. Now I am worrying though, the rental car hire excess is 600 -…

Can I afford a car?
Hello, I'm a little lost! So my problems 1) I have a 900 overdraft to pay 2) I really want a small little runaround KA I'm thinking to put my overdraft, insurance and cost of the car onto a 0% 21 month credit card. The total cost would be 800 for the car, 800 for the insurance and 900 for the overdraft If I pay it off over…

Use insurance or pay?
Hello, I had a minor accident in my Ford Kuga... which resulted in a big of a dent in my door. Had two quotes and both have said £400 plus the cost of a door (which I've found online). Is this something I should be going through my insurer for, or will they knock up my claim next year. I don't have protected no claims...…

Hit and run
Hi all, I need some advice. Someone hit the side of my car this afternoon on an island, they drove off and I followed them for about 10 minutes until he pulled into a car park. I got out and told him he's hit my car and driven off, to which he claimed he hadn't. But when shown the damage to my car he admitted he must have…

Meriva B head gasket
Too much negativity here. Had no idea I'd be belittered so quickly on the forum when the reason for posting was seeking genuine sound advice. Remember the MSE advice: Don't feed the trolls Sadly the web has a habit of throwing up a very small but vocal number of trolls, people who are nasty or contrary just to get a rise…

Tyre for a full-size spare wheel
My recent car came without a spare wheel, and I am DIYing it. I have already ordered a rim. As the direction of rotation depends on what side of the car the spare is fitted to, do I have to look for some special sort of a tyre? Some tyres are grossly asymmetrical. Also, would a 'Run Flat' tyre be OK, not far more heavy…
