Used car bought 10 weeks ago now undriveable.
Options
I traded in my last car on 19th Jan this year for a Kia Sorento 56 plate with 75,000 on clock. I bought it from a very well known dealership, was offered extended warranty but politely refused. They classed the car as a runabout so they told me that it didn't qualify for 3 months warranty even though I paid over ,6k for it.
The car has been fine until today 29th march when my wife arrived home from work saying the car sounded terrible. I drove it and took it to my usual garage who confirmed gear box, diff problem, car can not be driven now until it is fixed.
My wife mainly uses the car for work and travels around 20 miles a day, I refuse to believe that since buying the car this has contributed to the problem, I suspect it was already there upon purchase.
I have read up on my rights SOGA and CAB also the AA, they all say the same thing, it is the dealer's responsibility, I don't want a refund, I want a repair.
The dealer resides 2 hours drive away from us so it would have to be a phone call to them, or would an email suffice? At least I would have something in writing.
Many thanks

A letter my friend. Typed on paper, put in an envelope, and posted recorded delivery IIWY.0

75.000 is DMF failure area, check to see if it was done, if not it might be the root of the problem and is a wear and tear issue.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

Evans halshaw are cheeky sods, had problems a few years back with a 'runabout' saying they only offered 30 days warranty. However I pointed out the big sign behind the device desk to them which stated 'this does not effect your statutory rights' !0

6 large for a 'runaround'.-it's not some 20 year-old Fiesta, at that sort of price point you've got a right to expect a car that's going to last more than 2 months. Get them to fix it, SOGA is your friend.0

Get it recovered to the dealership.
As has been said it could be the DMF or it could be the gearbox.
That three month warranty is not even as good as your rights under the new consumer rights act which means, from what I have read, the garage has to prove that fault wasn't present when you bought the car at this stage.
How knowledgable is the mechanic that has looked at it? Or was it a Halfords or other chain that assessed it?
Have a look on specific online owners forums as often common faults are there. Is this a 4x4 version? Does it have a seperate diff and gearbox? What about a transfer case? A good mechanic will know the difference between a diff problems and a gearbox problem.0 -
10 second Google found these

What kind of noise are you getting, seems a whining noise is common and you car has a seperate diff and gearbox plus a transfer case.0
