Penalty Points and Insurance
Yep... it happened. Got caught overtaking at a bit over the limit! SP30!
My insurance is due for renewal in a few months with an Admiral Multicar policy. Any idea how much of a hike I'm likely to see given that I now have this blot on my copybook?
I currently am paying £410 annually for a Mercedes C220 CDI with 22,500 miles and business use (which was quite a bargin, I thought!) 7 years holding a full license, 8 years NCB. The other Toyota Avensis 2.0 D-4D was £230 or something like that for the year. 3 drivers in total with the other 2 experienced and with clean records - just me making a mess of it!
Getting a bit apprehensive as to what figure they'll pull out of the air and throw at me. Anyone had any recent experience of this that can either put my mind at rest, or at least stop me from guessing?

1x sp30 shouldn't affect you much at all but you shouldn't wait till renewal to declare it you should do it as soon as it happened.0

^^^ This. Most insurers aren't too worried about a single SP30 on an otherwise clean license, but you must declare it.0

This whole "multicar" lark is a great way of tying customers in to them come renewal. After all, it couldn't possibly be cheaper to insure the cars separately... could it?0 -

Must admit, I looked at Admiral a few years ago after seeing their advert on TV. Their price was more than double what me and the missus were currently paying for our cars.0 -
Probably not much, if anything. Directline didn't really care about my sp30 and it didn't up my insurance at all.....0

Thanks for the replies, you've all put my mind at east somewhat!
Fortunately, after TWO attempts to tell them, it got registered on my policy. I informed them as soon as I got the SP30 (it's actually some other code in NI, but translates to SP30). They then didn't note it on the policy for 6 months (until I just made sure it was on there one day), so I created a fuss and got a £30 from them as a goodwill for potentially having driven without full cover for that period of time - why not?
Looks like I might have to move elsewhere come renewal time. When I took out that policy there was no beating what they were offering by anyone, though. My old insurer, AxaNI were more than double for one car and triple for the other. It isn't until mid July though, so I'll have plenty of time to look around.0 -
Most aren't, but this is Admiral. The Ryanair of insurance, the only insurer who ask about speed awareness courses.

I was with Admiral for a few years, with a Multicar policy and without
I had a car stolen and not recovered with them and they sorted it out quickly using Autotrader prices for similar cars at Subaru Main Dealers.
Can't comment on the 3 points bit as I never had any points at the time.
I didn't like the fact that they told me if the second car on the Policy had a claim then it would affect the NCB on both Policies.
Which was one reason I went back to seperate Policies.
I pay just under £1000 a year for two policies at the moment, the Berlingo is more expensive to Insure than the 116D worth five times as much and three years newer, more than my V50 and more than the Clio DCi.
A great practical vehicle, but it's days are numbered for this reason. And the mileage we are doing in it has tripled since purchase!!0 -
Mine went up £30 in 2011.0
