Is a handshake (and a deposit) binding?
I test drove a car today, and offered and had accepted a price £500 lower than the screen price. We shook hands and I then went with the salesman to the cash desk and handed over a deposit. The salesman then walked me to his desk, handed me a cup of coffee and said he would get the paperwork for me to sign. I waited 10…

Zafira not starting, ignition goes on, but no clicks from starter FIXED
Wife's Zafira is not starting again. The last 2 times this happened it was the starter, replaced and all was OK. The difference between the last 2 times and this time is that the solenoid on the starter is not clicking (still clicking before) And when I took the starter off it was still free. (was jammed before) Also…

Signs that show your speed.
I regularly drive past signs that light up if I exceed the posted limit. I find that it is a very effective and friendly way to get me to drive below the limit. I sometimes make a mistake and drive slightly over the limit. These signs act as a reminder so I slow down. Far better than speed camera which won't slow you down…

VW Up or Skoda Citigo: finance / lease / contract hire options
Hello all. Owing to an imminent change in where we live and work, we're thinking of buying a small car. The Skoda Citigo and VW Up appeal, although I'm tending towards the latter because of the bigger engine (we'll do a bit of country driving as well as around town). My only experience of car ownership was a somewhat…

Trading in car on spare tyre?
Last week exactly (Friday) I put down a deposit on a two year old car from the local SEAT dealership. This was based on a price the salesman gave me for my five year old VW and a reduced price for the SEAT I was interested in - the deal was sealed and it was agree'd that the car would be ready for me in 7-10 days (Includes…

I took my car to my local garage today because the front tyres are pretty worn and they quoted me a good price two new front tyres and told me that Federal is a very good budget tyre. Hi guys, Basically my car insurance is up for renewal, however I have the chance of a couple jobs in Germany/USA around January time. What is better to take fine and points or course?
I got caught in a speed camera trap. They are now offering me to choose a 'course' costing £90 and 4 hours of my time (more likely 6 hours with travel) or pay a fine of £60 and three points. The course fee and time will cost me a fair amount in terms of my time. I have no endorsements in my license that count for insurance…

Astra 1.7dti vs 1.7cdti which is better?
So my mums 2002 1.6 astra petrol was written off last week and she's looking for a new car. She does around 40 miles a day, most of which is motorway and she'd prefer a diesel now as the petrol was costing her £60 a week and it drank oil like there's no tomorrow! Originally she wanted to spend £2k, but I've told her to…

Hire car Excess: what would you do?
Ok, so you know the score: You've piled off a sleazyjet flight into boiling heat and darkness, and you eventually find the Hire Car desk and present your pre-paid voucher. You are given the keys, and to your horror are told that the car has a €1,000 excess for theft and a €1,800 excess for damage. The gold plated…
