hi all.
I have been seconded into a new role in my company. I have been given a car from the pool and I pay the personal usage charge on it.
the vehicle was the only one available and is a 2 litre diesel.
I have to fill it up and claim my business miles at 12p per mile.
The vehicle does about 44mpg which means it does around 9.5 miles per litre.
With fuel costing 130.9 at the moment it's actually costing me more than I am claiming back. it might knit sound a lot but when I am using 300 pounds worth of full a week it soon adds up.
is there any way I can claim the difference back? I have spoken to work and they were not much help.
thanks in advance.

I would be thinking for less than 1p a mile I have a car that costs me nothing else to run.
No insurance, depreciation or servicing etc .
So even at 25,000 miles a year its costing you £250.
Possible yo drive more economically? Do you have other drivers with similar vehicles to compare with?
Around town my 2L diesel drinks the fuel, Much less than your figures, But on a run i can get 55 MPG.

You can claim back income tax on 45p-12p per mile.
Keep a log of the mileage and you can put it on your tax return at the end of the tax year. If you don't normally do a tax return, it would be worth doing one!
If you pay tax at 20%, you get back 20% x (45p-12p) x number of miles done on business
EDIT: Just realised, as its company-owned car, I don't think you can claim.0 -

Ignore last 2 posts - OP has made it clear he has a company car and the "advice" given relates to people who use their OWN car for work.
Any mileage claim for the 45p is only going to end in disappointment and possibly lots of unnecessary paperwork/correspondence as two different things are being mixed up!!0 -

What is the car? 44 mpg sounds a bit low for a diesel. If you want to make sure your costs are covered you may want to look at driving a little more economically? Since you're doing over 2000 miles per week I guess that must be a lot of motorway driving, so dropping your cruising speed would probably be the thing to do. That said, with that much driving, you probably won't feel you have the time or the patience!bristollad wrote:With fuel costing 130.9 at the moment...
Be grateful you can buy diesel that cheap, it costs more than that over most of the country!0
