Car Insurance if moving abroad

Hi guys,

Basically my car insurance is up for renewal, however I have the chance of a couple jobs in Germany/USA around January time. Does anybody know if I get some sort of rebate on the amount that I don't use?

I bet not...!!

In fact while I'm at it, if I decide to sell my car, what's the best way to go about it? AutoTrader??

EDIT - thanks in advance!!

With most policies, you can get something refunded if you cancel. It won't equate to the amount of unused time you've got on your policy, but will be better than nothing. Check the terms and conditions of the policy before you take it.

Autotrader could be an effective way to sell, but be on the lookout for scams there, as there are frequent reports of such things.

Ive never had to do this before so it's all new to me. I'm guessing it'd be cheaper to buy a car in the States than have mine shipped over.

A friend of mine used Autotrader and eventually got his car sold, but there were plenty of chancers offering far below value (despite agreeing to a price on the phone)!

    I'll check the conditions, thanks!

Much much better to sell yours and buy a car over there - unless your current one is a collectors item with significant value in the US.
Not only will maintenance cost you a lot less for a car purchased there, the steering wheel will be on the [STRIKE]right[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]left[/STRIKE] side appropriate to their driving style. :)

What part of the US are you moving to? When I moved to California in 1994 aged 48 I was initially hammered with a huge premium (no driving history - they don't care about your decades of claim free motoring in the UK, even if you can prove it). The up-side is that you can buy a really nice used car over there for peanuts.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
