Mortgage Valuation comes in HIGHER than purchase price
I'm buying a new build flat. There has been problems with completion owing to bankruptcy, new firm coming in etc. Anyway the price has always remained static (in 2 years), which I argued in the face of the current house price downturn. My mortgage offer expired so I applied for a new one with the Halifax. They've been out…

Anyone out there know if someone who has a very good credit rating and has had previous mortgages, was to apply for a mortgage in their own name for a property to in all probability rent out, would their co-habitees debts which were run up at the address they currently live at be taken into consideration when the…

Additional payment after redemption
I have recently moved mortgage from Egg to First Direct. Since Egg dragged their heels getting a redemption figure to my solicitor, by the time the funds were transferred from First Direct to Egg, Egg had taken an additional payment. Just phoned Egg to make sure I get this money back (£700), to be told that they will…

Intelligent Finance - are they ripping me off??
Hi all - long time reader, first time poster here! Just a quick one here - I got my mortgage statement update this morning and through reading it I'm wondering if I am being ripped off? I'm on a tracker rate and basically this is what it says on the letter: Previous interest rate : 2.59% New interest rate : 2.09% Effective…

Standard variable rate rip off - anything we can do?
Hi, We have a mortgage with CHELSEA - their SVR was 6.94% when the base rate was 5%; now the base rate is 1.5% their SVR is 5.79%! They haven't passed on any of the last two rate cuts to their customers. When I've called them, I was told that they are 'reviewing the rate at the moment' - and this was two weeks ago. What a…

Interest on repayment mortgage
I have a repayment mortgage with the Alliance and Leicester. On 1 Jan 2008 the interest rate was 7.89%, it has reduced over the last 12 months to 5.84% last month, which still seems high to me. It has 12 years left to run and in theory I am paying back proportionately more capital and less interest but there is still a…

Abbey Standard variable rate
Hi Does anyone know what the current Abbey Standard Variable rate is? We are currently on a fixed rate, but this is due to end soon. The paperwork I have says we will then switch to the SVR, which is listed as 7.84%, which is really high, but I'm guessing that's come down now? I've looked on their website, but can't find…

Calculator for working out if changing mortgage is worth it
I think I've seen a link to a calculator that you can enter your early redemption penalty into, along with the potential new rate, and it works out how long it would take to make changing mortgages worthwhile. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

Time to think about our fix rate ending…
Our fixed rate mortgage is up soon in June – currently fixed at 5.05% with Abbey. Their SVR is 4.69%, which to me, doesn’t seem very good in today’s climate, although it would see our repayments drop slightly. I'm therefore at odds what to do; whether to fix again (not the best deals at the moment), remain on their SVR for…

Earnings multiples
Hi all, Apologies if a similar thread has been posted before (I had a look on the search engine but couldn't see anything). I was wondering what people's thoughts were on future trends in earnings multiples? I saw on one thread that the current trend is 3.5x income (I couldn't see what the trend would be for a joint…
