Best Self Select ISA for low trades
If I wanted to buy 7k's worth of shares in blue chip companies that pay good dividends, and keep these shares for (say) 5 years, which would be the best company to keep them with? I will be putting in about 2k of Standard Life shares and then making up the difference to 7k with other shares. This will be carried out when I…

I'm getting myself in a fuddle & probably overthinking this... so can anyone clarify? I opened an ISA in April this year - the Barclays tax beater for 2006/7 and managed to get £2400 in there before the cut off into 2007/8... so, question 1 - can I put in the extra £600 from last years allowance now?…

Help?
I am a little confused, my head goes spinning when I think about banks and savings and anything along that line. I'm wanting to open an ISA but I don't really know anything about it. If it is a yearly interest account the interest goes in at the end of the financial year, regardless of when you open the account? I'm a…

Barclays ISA - they have stolen my money
Hi all, I applied for a Barclays tax-beater cash ISA at the end of the financial year on 5th April 2007 and deposited a cheque for £3,000. Like many I hadn't had any confirmation of the account for several weeks but was told that due to the huge demand it was taking longer than usual to process the applications. My cheque…

To re-register s&s isa or not to re-register...
i'm rather ignorant about this stuff, so forgive me if this is nonsense.. :) earlier this year i took out a s&s isa with CIS (the sustainable leaders fund) - just to dip my toes in, really. hasn't been a terribly great ride so far, but that's not exactly uncommon at the moment :) and i'm in this for the long run, so i'm…

Natwest mini cash ISA rate CUT
To anyone with a Natwest mini-cash ISA - rates were 'changed' on 3rd September, which means a cut of 0.21% for anyone with less than £18k in the account. It was nice to have all my online banking on one screen, but this might just trigger a switch to Kent Reliance. Now, I thought that if a bank made a rate change which was…

To transfer, or not to transfer ...
... that is the question. I am in the process of MSE-ing my finances, and it is my ISA's turn. It is a Halifax mini cash ISA, currently paying 5.75% and with a balance of £15,666. Unfortunately, they also have a transfer penalty of 180 days (approx. 6 months) interest. Based on last year's interest payment of £666, this is…

Resurrecting our ISAs
Hello, I and O/H drained our ISAs in July to get our house deposit. Mine was an A&L ISA which I transferred to Abbey this financial year, his is an A&L Direct ISA Issue 2 (I think). Neither have been paid into this year, but we are currently in a position to do so. So: Can we close the ISAs and open 'new money' ISAs this…

Investment diary of a newbie
Right. Here goes. Summer's over and back to a bit of normality. Time to look again at the finances. There always seem to be a lot of questions from people wanting to start from scratch with a S&S ISA (from myself included) and I've read and re-read THE thread so many times. I thought I'd start my own diary. My starting…

Poor PEP
In 1998 I invested £5K in a PEP. Today it is still worth less than the original investment! Before I cut my losses & run, is it worth complaining to someone about bad fund management ? Other investments over this nine year period of time have done OK. Furthermore, I took advice free from my bank (with no association…
