Best Self Select ISA for low trades

If I wanted to buy 7k's worth of shares in blue chip companies that pay good dividends, and keep these shares for (say) 5 years, which would be the best company to keep them with?

I will be putting in about 2k of Standard Life shares and then making up the difference to 7k with other shares. This will be carried out when I first open the ISA, then I will do nothing with them for a few years except to get the divis re-invested to buy more shares.

Any suggestions?

Most ISA providers charge an annual fee for having an ISA account.

    My suggestions are:

    1) HSBC InvestDirect who will charge you £16.95/trade to trade shares in an ISA (£5 less if trading outside an ISA) but have no annual fees at all which is good for low users. First Direct have a similar service. You do need to have/open a (free) HSBC or FD current account though.

    2) Alliance Trust charge £12.50/trade also charge no annual fee for having an ISA with them but do seem to charge for some other services that most brokers do for free.

    3) Selftrade who charge £12.50/trade and £25/annual fee for an ISA but have a referral scheme where you could get up to £80 for joining them (my own details are in post 242) - which covers the first 2 years worth of fees..

Note: if you already have Standard Life shares you cannot put them straight into an ISA - you need to sell them and buy them back within the ISA (Treasury rules) - many brokers will give you a special deal if they know you plan to 'bed and ISA' which is what this is called..

    Regards

selftrade are attractive, but a major downside is that they dont offer dividend reinvestment...

DD, the question to ask is 'Do you need to hold these investments in an ISA', certainly initially?

You can enjoy realising profits of £9200 this FY before paying CGT. Are there tax reasons wht this £7k or £9k needs to go in an ISA and incur possible additional charges????
