Spilled juice on laminate floor, now it’s lifted uo
Hi all. I stupidly left a glass of juice on the floor and kicked it over on Friday night. The floor is laminate with foam mats to stop my little boy hitting his head. I mopped it off the foam mats but like an idiot didn’t check to see if it had seeped through onto the floor. Picked the mats up to vacuum under them this…

Best, seamless wall filler for shallow dents to painted wall
I'm looking to spot-fix a few small, shallow dents to an already painted interior wall, using filler. I've seen varying techniques for this, including ready-made, powder, and also plaster. Which ones would be best for my needs, and - importantly - offer the best results in terms of a seamless finish once painted?

Do I have a damp problem?
Recently pulled up the carpets on the ground floor of my 2 bed 1940's semi. The existing underlay had a waterproof base which was wet underneath (this had not soaked through the underlay), and underneath that were some very old, thin tiles which were also wet. Under the tiles is concrete (the tiles are quite loose). After…

Ruined porcelain tiles
Just before Christmas, and before the last lockdown, I had my kitchen floor replaced from ceramic to porcelain tiles. The tiler wore a mask and we never really saw him do him do the job. They were rustic tiles, the sort of tiles that look good on patios. The tiler assured us that they would be suitable for indoors (he came…

Do you think it's possible to add a cloakroom/utility here?
Currently in our home, the bathroom is on the first floor of the building along the middle of the house on the left walls. We want to add an upstairs cloakroom and possibly space for a washer dryer on the second floor (existing loft conversion). But this would be on the middle of the house on right hand wall of the house.…

Putting up a coat hanger
Hi Recently moved into a new build home, needless to say all the walls are plasterboard and a nightmare for putting up shelves etc. I put up a coat hanger (the type with hooks on a length of wood), all was ok until the OH decided to hang out work bags on it with laptops etc, ultimately it ended in disaster and the hanger…

Structural engineer cost
Hi How much would you expect to pay for a structural engineer to inspect a wall that is cracked, report on the cause of the crack, and recommend a repair for it?

wooden gate latch/catch
I am looking for a product that I can attach to my wooden side gate so that it automatically latches/locks in the open position as I open and swing it towards the wall - I know I can get a hook and loop thing and manually hook it open but is there anything that automatically catches - then I release it when I want to close…

Gutter downpipe
Hi all, another question! I have a conservatory roof and gutter. There seems to be two downpipes. On one side it drains into a drain and the other it just drains on to the floor. I think maybe the previous owner collected the water in a water butt or something as there isn't a drain that I can see there as the pipe is…

Legal question: New buildings close to large tree at the bottom of my garden
I've recently moved into a Victorian terraced house with a long-ish back garden. There is a large old goat willow tree right at the end of my garden. It's far enough from my own house not to cause any problem to me, but a cul-de-sac of new bungalows has been built in recent years backing on to my garden, quite close to the…

Fencing
We have just had a quite expensive new fence installed. Three panels in the middle are lower that the rest of the fence. They told us they had to do that as the land drops away a bit. Initially excepted this but surely they could have done something to bring them up to match the rest. My DH thinks I'm making a fuss over…

Fixing shower head back to wall
We have the shower shown in the attached pic and it’s come away from the wall at the top. We have no idea how to fix it back - we used silicone glue which worked for a while but then didn’t, and then drilled a tiny hole into the bottom of the tube part (as you can see) before realising the round ‘hole’ on the outer rim bit…

However before I move in there is a lot of work I want to get done so that I enjoy living there. Currently I have no…

Could/Should I replace this old style fuse box??
This seems to be of the old "actual fuse wire" variety, at least for 4 of them, not sure how 2 have been changed to switches, but if one of those wire ones blew I wouldn't have a scooby what to do! Should/could I get this replaced with a more modern one?

Moving a megaflo water tank
Hi, Excuse the ignorance as this is definitely not my area of expertise! We are looking to move our megaflo tank into the loft of our bungalow to free up the large amount of space it takes up currently. We want it to go directly above where it is now, this is also where all the pipes are coming from. I am aware we will…

Howdens paintable kitchens - any use?
We are looking to order a new kitchen and are looking at going with the Howdens Chelford handleless range. None of the standard colours really appeal to us so we are looking at going with the paintable range. Has anyone any experience of the paintable kitchens? We would be painting them ourselves prior to our fitter…

Outdoor fuse/trip switch for car charger
Morning folks, Can any qualified sparkys tell me if this is safe!? I had a pod point car charger installed a week ago, I wasn’t in at the time so never had the chance to query the workman, but ever since I’ve wondered if the fuse switch/mcb shouldn’t be outside. I opened the cover up after a rain shower and water leaked in…

wallpaper - help!!
our new house has MUCH more wallpaper than we had realised. Every wall has been covered. We knew it was in quite a few rooms but its in the hallway/bathroom/living room but its been painted over. I've tried to peel some back a little to have a look and it seems VERY stuck. its a late 1920s semi so could be loads of layers.…
