wooden gate latch/catch

I am looking for a product that I can attach to my wooden side gate so that it automatically latches/locks in the open position as I open and swing it towards the wall - I know I can get a hook and loop thing and manually hook it open but is there anything that automatically catches - then I release it when I want to close the gate.
Ive googled lots of gate furniture but cant see anything specific (maybe im using the wrong search term)
Thanks in advance.

Can't you use a gate latch, similar to this https://www.screwfix.com/p/smith-locke-heavy-duty-auto-gate-catch-black-120mm/8257j
They're generally used to latch the gate closed but if you put on on the wall it can be used to latch it open.
Or you can get a hook and eye latch

Another vote for the Screwfix option mentioned above. Ours works perfectly.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

Ref your suggested Screwfix option 1 - which bit do you put on the wall as what I am asking for is different from the picture shown on the screwfix site.. The picture shows the gate locking closed rather than open. An image below shows my gate - it opens towards the camera (inwards) and the hinges are on the right side of this picture, so which bit do I attach to the wall on the right hand side of this image to latch it open - Thanks

You'd put the main body of the catch on the wall.

All sorted...
I got the latch from Screwfix as suggested and it works a treat - ive no idea why I couldnt get my brain around how this simple DIY job would work in practice but I guess i was probably over thinking what went where.
Thanks to all - I can now get rid of the old car battery that I have been using as a gate stopper for years which will please my other half no end.1
