Putting up a coat hanger

Hi
Recently moved into a new build home, needless to say all the walls are plasterboard and a nightmare for putting up shelves etc. I put up a coat hanger (the type with hooks on a length of wood), all was ok until the OH decided to hang out work bags on it with laptops etc, ultimately it ended in disaster and the hanger came down.
not to be deterred I looked into other ways of putting objects on walls and stumbled across gripit plugs which I purchased today. Upon drilling the 25mm hole on the wall I find I managed to drill slightly above a wooden beam going left to right. Am I right in saying I can now drill through the plasterboard into the wood to hang the coat hanger?
I have concerns that the weight (no laptop bags anymore) may still cause movement in the plasterboard (hopefully the diagram below explains what I mean), resulting in it falling down again.

Now you know where the timber studs are, screw in to them and the hooks will take plenty of weight. The use of a wet kipper applied to the back of OH's head will also educate him on the perils of hanging heavy stuff
Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
