Structural engineer cost

Hi

How much would you expect to pay for a structural engineer to inspect a wall that is cracked, report on the cause of the crack, and recommend a repair for it?

Where is the crack in relation to ground level, doors, or windows ?
How big is the crack ?
Does it go through bricks, or is it just the mortar joints ?
    Any pictures ?

    £250-£400 would be my estimate.

I paid £300 for this initially -- but after builders ripped apart things to do the repair, etc., issues turned out to be slightly different than he thought at the beginning so overall a couple more visits where deemed necessary (probably around 600 in total). Things like this are not uncommon I believe.
