How much would you expect to pay for a structural engineer to inspect a wall that is cracked, report on the cause of the crack, and recommend a repair for it?

Where is the crack in relation to ground level, doors, or windows ?How big is the crack ?Does it go through bricks, or is it just the mortar joints ?Any pictures ?Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

£250-£400 would be my estimate.0

I paid £300 for this initially -- but after builders ripped apart things to do the repair, etc., issues turned out to be slightly different than he thought at the beginning so overall a couple more visits where deemed necessary (probably around 600 in total). Things like this are not uncommon I believe.
