Re-sand or cement garden patio?
We're going to pressure wash our rear patio (a basic, sand coloured square paving slab design) and dig out all the muck, moss and grass thats growing in between the slabs. I was thinking re-sand with kiln dried sand as I've read on here previously, but seen a few people elsewhere mention a mix that once swept in, you water…

any asbestos testing companies that are honest?
looking for a way to get a piece of flue tested for asbestos. it seems there are no independant companies or gov dept's that can do this. they are all removers as well, which to me seems a bit of a way of making money when actually the flue might be harmless.

Question about Farrow and Ball Paint
If there are any people, who know anything about FB paint, I'd be grateful if you could give some advice or share your experience. I hired a decorator to paint 2 rooms in the house. Wanted to make them look nicer, so went out and spent a bit more money than I probably should have done to get FB estate emulsion. Yes, I am a…

Howden's worktops
Hi, Visited Howden's yesterday and really liked a few of their worktops, but having read reviews don't think we want to bother with all this not knowing the "real" cost and the amount tradesman might be making on the job (other than for labour) Does anyone know who makes their worktops? Also-out of interes, are their doors…

Cheapest way to level a back yard
Hi guys, Now that summer is just around the corner-ish, I’m thinking of doing my back yard. I’ve just bought a table and 6 chairs, built them and it now looks silly. My garden is on a slope, not too much of one, and it’s full of those little decorative type stones. Under the stones it is teram and under them there is some…

Builder restricting access during renovation works
I recently bought a flat and am looking to get a builder in to do a whole bunch of renovation work before moving in. It's fairly comprehensive work: complete rewiring, stripping off all wallpaper, skimming/bonding where required (it's an old building and hard to tell what the walls will be like), patch/replace ceilings,…

White Kitchen
Hi. I need to replace the kitchen and I think a white kitchen would look good. The shiny vinyl white type of doors. Has anyone found they go yellow over time? The kitchen is north facing and doesn't get a lot of natural light. Also, what manufacturers would you recommend? Thanks very much.

Is this mesh roll any good for rodent control?
Hi, Would like your opinion if this stuff seems any good to wrap around a few indoor plastic water pipe connections and pipes themselves to stop mice biting through, as I have suffered a few leaks. Or could it actually be dangerous to use, although its says it is copper I have my doubts.…

Venting a chimney
Hi I have a chimney breast in my living room and am currently lowering the chimney stack bit by bit inside my loft with the intention of taking it down to joist level and flooring over it. My attic is not a room – purely for storage. I know that if I seal it, I’ll need a vent and it’ll be in my living room behind the…

Electric cooker, safe to remove myself?
Hi - I have a defunct cooker wired to an elderly cooker switch, I can't post a link but if you'd be kind enough to google "Vintage Ivory Bakelite MK 45 Amp cooker Switch and Socket" that should get you something similar enough. I'd like to disconnect the cooker and ditch it asap, I have no plans to connect another until I…

Problems with burglar alarm installer
Back in November I paid £400 to a local engineer to fit a basic alarm in my house, using the pre-installed wires. He appeared friendly and helpful however it took him a whole day to fit the system (control panel, 4 sensors and alarm box outside) and he still could not resolve a 'damper' error. He came back the morning…

DIY Party Wall Agreement
