How much does HVAC affect air pressure?
If you have an HVAC system installed into your house, what sort of difference would that read on a barometer? If someone gets ill whenever the air pressure drops or fluctuates, can an HVAC system have any effect? Or is the difference in air pressure caused by a forced air system minimal and not measurable on a barometer? :A

Dishwasher recirculation pipe coming off part way through wash (Candy CDI 6061)
Hi all, Firstly thank you for looking at my post, My father has a 2yr old Candy CDI 6061 dishwasher. Recently they come into the kitchen part way through the cycle and found water everywhere. On some inspection it appears that the pipe that comes from the recirculation pump that pumps the water back into the machine had…

Mounting TV in Summer House
I have a small 19-inch TV I want to mount in a wooden summer house at the back of the garden and wasn't sure on the best way to do this, so I am looking for advice. I have a bracket for the TV but would screwing it directly into the wood cause problems if it pierces to the exterior? Would no nails be strong enough? No…

Proposed balcony looking into our kitchen window?
We live in an end terraced town house. Our neighbour would like to build a balcony at the side of their house, which faces the side of our house. This would be the middle floor and would be facing our kitchen which has a juliet balcony (with frosted glass) The distance between the houses is perhaps 3 - 4 metres. Access is…

Getting moss cleaned off roof
Hello everyone, We have a fair bit of moss and lichen on our (very old) roof. We've had to have some work done this year to replace tiles and repair valleys, and apparently the roof is 'nearing the end of it's life.' For the moment it's fine though, and no longer leaking. We've had conflicting advice about whether it's…

Removing part of a chimney breast

Party wall question
Hi, We have just received planning permission for a 2 storey extension at the rear of our house. Throughout the planning application, our elderly neighbours have made it clear they are not happy and one consistent thing has been his insistence on a party wall agreement. He's made comments such as "I know it's only a drop…

Making attic more comfortable
I want to start using the attic space a bit more as a room.. potentially a bit of a man cave....currently its pretty cold, dark and uncomfortable. There is partial flooring in the middle (covering about 1/3 of the floor), which I may need to rip up. When we bought the house it had very old and outdated insulation (the thin…

Smoke damage from neighbour's property
Hi, just wondering if anyone can help. I came home to a house filled with smoke on Thursday plus a horrendous burning smell. After investigating to make sure my own house wasn't on fire, I knocked on the neighbour's door to see if they could shed any light on this. It turns out that she had put a pan on the hob, switched…

Log burner fire - your experience?
Directed at those who have a log burner, and/or those who install them. Apart from the unit was it expensive to install? Was it simple or complicated to install for example chimney liner, and how long did it take? Is there any test for carbon monoxide/dioxide in the room? Does it take long to light and get going? Do you…

Re-decorating wooden staircase
Hi, I have a pine staircase, including large wooden pannel area to the side of the stair case, rails and handrail. Waste 'P' / 'S' trap or Bottle Trap - which is quietest?
A future project I have in mind is to redo the waste piping under our kitchen sink. Currently the sink and the washing machine outputs both go through the one 'P' trap (or maybe 'S' Trap, I can't remember and I'd need to dismantle stuff to find out) then along a single pipe out to the gully outside. When the washing…

£500 boiler repairs
Hello, I moved into this house a in Feb 2016 - due to a couple of manic years that follows, I didn't pay my boiler enough attention. I think it's old - there is a date written in pencil on the front that I think relates to a part being replaced back in 2005. Anyhow, it works (though the filling loop has failed) - I have…
