Understairs Storage Solutions

I know you can get racks and boxes to stack from Ikea and other places but I was wondering what you use / can recommend for things like shoes and nick nacks.

Just build shelves and a couple of louvre doors.
  • I you need access quite often then shelves as suggested already. If it's more a 'dump it and forget it' vibe, then a carefully chosen set of those Really Useful boxes might work better giving more storage capacity vs the better access of shelving

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

I made some simple mdf cabinets to fit under the stairs, then bought some Blum deep pan kitchen drawers on line, 450mm deep and width made to measure - then got a carpenter friend to cut and fit a panelled sheet onto the front of it all.

Not particularly easy or cheap, but great result - drawers have soft close and much more efficient storage systems than shelves.

We had draws fitted by this company as well as keeping a small tall boy cupboard at the end where our existing understairs cupboard was.

We find them absolutely brilliant, 5 draws, 2 as shoe racks and 3 for bags / cat carrier, garden blankets, bits n bobs that get thrown into understairs cupboards and end up down the far end never to be seen again.

It's made a space totally usable without having to empty everything out to get to the back of it, or have arms like Mr Tickle.

Incidentally I was initially very sceptical of a company I found on Facebook so did lots of research including asking some friends in Ireland where the compan HQ is based. They were actually on Dragons Den.
