Sewage pipe
We recently bought a new house. The house is on a large plot. Under some of the garden is a sewage pipe that run from neighbouring houses. Our waste meets this pipe at the bottom of the garden. Am I right that our water provider (welsh water) own the part that comes from neighbouring properties. I noticed today that the…

Repairing windows
Not sure how I can upload a photo here from my mobile yet, but I have a stone built flat from 1898 and wooden windows. The windows are fine, but there is some kind of filler between the wooden window and the stone wall, falling away. The filler is hard to touch, but crumbles to touch. Any thoughts what it is, and how to…

Cleaning decorative cornicing??
Hi everyone, I have a question about this cornicing in my house: [/url] Not to everyone's taste but it does go with our style very nicely. I burn a lot of candles in my living room and when I decorated recently I was shocked at how sooty the walls were. Unfortunately, as you can see, the coving is also looking rather dark…

Sanitary ware for bathroom
I am looking for advice on sanitary ware for a bathroom refit. Can someone explain the pros and cons of "open back" or "closed back" for a "back to wall" toilet and cistern and which is the better option? Similarly, wash basin pedestals, "semi padastal" or "full padastal?

Archaeological survey
Hi, We've applied for planning for a 3 metre extension on the back of our house and planners have asked for an archaeological survey to be conducted. It's a bit unusual as it's a small extension and we're on a 1960's/70's estate and are one of a few houses who haven't extended. We've therefore queried why this has been…

Worcester Boiler Sludge query
Hi, I have a Worcester Greenstar boiler. It is either 24i Junior or 28i Junior but (embarrassingly) I am not actually sure which... I have noticed recently that sometimes (not always) the shower will go cold after a few minutes and then eventually warm up again. I got the boiler serviced as it was due anyway and the…

Garden Office - Do I need planning permission?
Hi, I have been researching this for a while and I hope someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I understand that if you are to build an out building in the garden up to 30 sqm and up to 2.5 metres high if it is within 2 meters of the neighbours boundaries, you wouldn't need a planning permission. I'm going to use it as a…

Composite sink cleaner?
Does anyone have experience with cleaning composite sinks? I have a new black one, and I've seen specialist cleaning products and read that you can just use soapy water, non adbrasive sponges or brushes and a vinegar solution for tougher marks and limescale. I am in a hard water area. Your experience appreciated! I don't…
