I want to make a workbench where is the cheapest place to buy timber for it's construction?

    A timber merchant. If you must use the DIY sheds, I find Wickes to be the best.

    If you have some spare time trawl round the neighbourhood looking for people having loft conversions done - if you are early enough in the process there may be a quantity of very good timber in a skip, usually with some nails in it, but perfectly ok for a workbench.

    Ask before you take though, and if you are very lucky you may be rewarded with other offcuts etc :)

    Alternatively, always worth checking sites like Freecycle, and a wanted add may prompt someone to have a clearout of their shed.

    I agree with this; but don't order online; you could end up with lengths like bananas. Timber/builders merchants are the best bet.

    Sorry Duck but got to disagree with that, I think all Wickes timber is terrible quality, including their sheds. Just my opinion ;).

    OP do what I do, visit all the local trade stores and compare. Luckily I've got a few around here. The independent ones are also likely to do you a deal.
