House Alarm

Options
Hi, anyone know anything about house alarms? we have a monitored on on the house thats now costing us £33.58 a month PLUS £23.50 for the phone line as our other line has too much stuff on it already.

I really want to keep the (an) alarm but its just costing too much now.

Any ideas?
thanks

Get a simple Yale wireless alarm with remote controls for all users. Homebase are cheap on the alarms, Screwfix usually have accessories on offer. The basic HSA6200 is the best value, but expect to need an extra PIR or two and remote controls, prob going to cost £200 to buy, maybe £80 - £100 to fit.

Homebase have been selling off their YALE alarms and CCTV, there is still stock in store but not a lot and you can't check what's there without phoning or going into store(they can check other stores while there).

Bunnings have stock but I don't think it is on clearance yet.

The easyfit and smart and CCTV can be accessed on your phone.

A fair bit of the Homebase stock made it to ebay.

Is there a charge to disconnect / remove the existing alarm?

Can you not continue with the alarm but unmonitored?

    ^^^ as per crisp.
Don't go to fhe expense of e new alarm installation until you have investigated ending the monitoring contract but keeping the alarm system.

If possible you woukd be making a £50 pcm saving (£600 a year!) And not the expense of another system!

There are bolt on extras so that in the event of an alarm you can get a text or voice message and those should not need an extra landline!

Thank you. I will be contacting ADT re: what happens to equipment. I believe some of it may be from our previous supplier (10 years ago) & so will belong to us.
Been reading reviews on ADT & not totally happy.

I'm totally bewildered by alarm systems & appreciate your help

What happens if they leave equipment there & after cancelling monitoring the alarm goes off? would I have to call a company to reset it?

I have an alarm, unmonitored and it is serviced once per year at a cost of around £60+VAT. Can you find a local servicer, likely to be cheaper than aDT?

I've always wondered these days , do police respond to domestic alarms going off , do most neighbours ignore them .

Presumably you have the means to turn it off now, whether it is monitored or not. What do you get for your monthly fee? What is involved in a "service"?

Ultimately the worst thing which could happen is some sort of fault with the bell box, which assuming you isolate the power to the system and the bell box, would carry on ringing until its internal battery went dead, or you got someone with a ladder our to get up and disable it, either by removing battery or pulling it off the wall. In practice, I think most normally shut-off after a set period.

Personally I'd get out of the maintenance contract and either keep the one you've got, or if the company is funny about it, get a new system fitted, ideally re-using the wiring to save on cost if it's still ok.

You don't want to be paying out for maintenance - there's very little to maintain, just a couple of rechargeable batteries to change every few years. You can do the bell and sensor checks yourself.
