Gas Safety Certificate

Hi everyone,

We have just bought our first home and we got an electrician to come out to review our electrics. It turns out we need a full re-wire!

I’m now conscious about our gas safety as we have a gas cooker (I’ve never had one before) and the boiler is 14 years old. I would like to get somebody to come out and have a look at the gas to provide us with a certificate - would we need a Central Heating Engineer or is there another name for someone who would issue the certificate? I’ve read online they need to be approved (obviously!) so I’ll do some research but there seems to be so many companies and people offering different services and I just want to make sure we are getting the right type of person out.

We will be looking to replace the boiler and all radiators in the next few months, but for the meantime for my piece of mind I just want to get the gas safety certificate. From what we can see the last one issued was in 2016.

Thanks!

They need to be gas safe registered.

You can use this link to find one in your area, or ask around locally and then check they are registered here.

It's good to take Gas safety seriously, but to be clear, an owner-occupier does not legally need a Gas Safety Certificate.

If your home has evidence of an old Safety Certificate, then that's probably because it was let out at the time, and a Cert is legally required under those circumstances.

A decent Gas Safe Engineer will come out. They will just provide you with a Landlords Certificate. That will confirm the safety of the installation.

Then every year after get I serviced and this will also check on the safety.

It isn't a legal requirement but may help your peace of mind.
