De-Humidifier Recomendations Please
I bought one about 8 years ago without looking into it in detail. I need to replace it and have completely confused myself by Googling too much. My problem is I need it for a cold workshop most of the time and a normal house in spring and autumn when the heating is off but the sun is in. All the information suggests I need…

Slugs getting under my door!!
Help! I found a slug in the middle of my living room at 4 in the morning. Disgusting, nearly stepped on it. Using a bright torch, I followed the slick back to my front door. Looks like they're getting in from under there. It's already a tight fit and between the bottom of the floor and the carpet below. I'm thinking a…

Need "stick" rechargeable vacuum cleaner
We have quite a tall thin house and find a small rechargeable stick vacuum cleaner very useful to keep handy near our kitchen diner. Trouble is we have had two now and both have lasted less than a year. The first one, a Phillips, we took into our local repair shop when it packed up after 10 months (with a 6 month…

Builder dispute - advice please!
Firstly, apologies for the super long post - these things are never straightforward but I hope you’ll stick with me! So we appointed a builder at the beginning of the year to undertake an extension on our home which included reconfiguring the entire downstairs into open plan. We agreed a part cash/part bacs transfer…

NHBC Warranty - Flue Corrosion = Boiler replacement
Hi, I have recently had my boiler condemned due to corrosion on my flue. My plumber informed me that the flue should be covered by my NHBC warranty as the house is less than ten years old and it was poorly installed. I have spoken with NHBC who has confirmed that they should be able to cover the cost of replacing the flue…

Grout cleaner
Hi. I have been using a 50/50 mix of water and vinegar once a week to keep the new grouting in my shower clean. It actually works a treat. However, I have recently read that the vinegar can degrade the grouting over time. Does anyone have any other suggestions on maintaining my sparkly shower enclosure? Thanks

Would you pay for this service?
Hi, Over the last 6 months (as part of a PHD project) I've done significant research into washing machines (technical, features and reliability). I'm thinking about setting up a 'concierge service' which will save customers time by finding them the ideal washing machine based on their needs. Is this a service that you…

Next Door Neighbours new boiler
Last night I noticed that my next door neighbours have had a new boiler installed on their outside wall which is next to my drive. Someone has been in my property without permission and put a black pipe under part of my drive. Is this even allowed under building regulations ? http://tinypic.com/1r55laif

Lateral door hinge for kitchen
Hi, I am in the process of planning a new kitchen. The white elephant in the room is a chimney breast which can’t be removed as it serves the room next door. I want to run a bank of units along this wall with a fake unit to cover the chimney and house a tv behind the door. I have seen several hinges and sliding systems…

Replacing fire/back boiler with stove.
Dear all I am a tenant and have lived here for almost 20 years, the rent is relatively low as I sort repairs, decorating, floor covering, decorating, boiler repairs etc myself. It's an arrangement that has worked well. The landlord has done big things - roof, windows. There was a usable open fire for the first 10 or so…
